BMW - YOU ARE SHAMELESS! I bought this for 10k used - figured they knew how to build an suv by now. The timing chain has shiny spots on top of chain as viewed through oil fill cap with a flashlight. Andrew at the service department of Weatherford BMW in Berkeley, CA. They told me the extended warranty BMW issued to 70k miles was up, and explained that if the car was at their dealer with the timing chain scoring and shiny rub marks on top of chain, they would replace the chain.

It's a 16 hour job @ 220 an hour, plus parts that are in limited supply. This sounds like what you may expect from Daewoo or Similar brands - no, THIS IS THE NEW BMW WAY OF DOING THINGS! If not repaired, the engine will seize up in about 35k miles. 20k dollars to replace the engine! The car must now be sold to the next hapless victim, of this ongoing BMW scam.

DO NOT BUY A BMW!
