The day following the replacement of the calipers and brake pad, my BMW continued to brake on its own when driving within the 1st mile. I took the vehicle directly back to the BMW dealer on January 2, 2024 and they further investigated the issue- they provided me a loaner. When they test drove it again in the morning they were able to recreate the issue. It was determined that the "Brains" of the abs braking system needed to be replaced. estimated $5700 repair, after just paying $2700 the prior week with no resolution to issue!
Well, another issue- no parts available in the USA or Germany, and possibly up to 6 weeks for getting part.
I did some research as I felt this should be a recall issue for a serious possible life/death situation if the vehicle automatically brakes on its own when driving down the road. I found that the 2020-2021 BMWs were recalled for this same issue.
I contacted the director at BMW and voiced my concerns of the automatic braking, and no parts available in the United States and Germany. He did his research and ended up getting me a discounted part for the delay in getting the part to repair my vehicle. He said there was no recall. It was nice that the dealership did provide me a loaner.
I received my car back today, February 13, 2024 and it drove home with no braking on its own. I paid $3800.
My big question is "Why is there no parts", "how many vehicles are having this same issue???" A Recall should occur before a death happens.
