The contact owns a 2007 BMW X5. When the brake pedal was depressed, the stopping distance increased excessively without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake vacuum line was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure due to the vehicle previously being remedied per NHTSA campaign number: 13V045000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 88,000.
