I NEVER EXPECTED a transfer cased to fail, especially a low mileage vehicle that was driven off-road and lived in Las Vegas, Florida and Southern California. Luckily it failed 1 mile from when returning from a 1,200 mile trip. Ai understand there was a problem with the “lifetime” OEM fluid breaking and causing failure. I never received a recall notice or advisory and the last 2 oil changes were performed at the BMW dealer. I was never advised to replace the transfer case fluid. I purchased the car in Florida in January 2023 with 48,000 miles and at least 2/3s of the driving was highway and never off-road. The car has staggered tires which were replaced with new Continental tires of the OEM specifications.

When it failed it sounded like a broken front Disc Brake pad that split failed and was grinding the disc, but The pads were repacked after the purchase and were like new, hardly showing any wear.
