The vehicle stalled intermittently. The brakes failed, and the vehicle was involved in two front end collisions. There was a funny noise in the engine at idle speed. The engine would lose power and stall. The service manager suggested that there were problems with the 2000-2004 model with this same problem. The front brake linings were worn, the dash pad was peeling at the leading edge near the defrost edge near the defrost grille due to delamination and the coin holder housing had come apart and split at the seam. The crankshaft position sensor was replaced.
Vehicle hit a cement wall at 5-10 mph, neither airbag deployed. Major damage to bumper. No injuries. The cause for the accident was brake failure due to the pedal becoming disconnected underneath the dash board.
