Continuing amount of expensive repairs on this car: Timing chain replacement, windshield wiper assembly and now lift gate components. Power liftgate opens half-way, raises, then closes. Also, the crappy dim headlights that I've yet to get fixed. Cadillac has surpassed BMW as the worst make I've owned.

Several times,in the past few months my 2011 SRX hatchback liftgate was fully opened when I came out of the house in the morning. Now it is closed and will not open at all and there is NO WAY to open it manually. From doing research on line I have found posts by many other SRX owners who have had this occur and determined that it was caused by plugged drain tubes from the sunroof which then caused rain water to flow into the area below the rear cargo compartment floor where the power lift gate electronics are located. They soon became submerged and ceased being operational. My car now has a foul odor emanating from the wet cargo area carpeting and a blanket I keep back there. Since I had taken my car to the Val Ward Cadillac dealership in Ft. Myers Florida for a driver seat bolt recall and was advised that they also remedied a GM manufacturer sunroof drain tube problem while I was there over a year ago I was perplexed to read on line that my current hatchback dilemma may be due to sunroof drain tubes. But I then came to learn that the drain tube remedy the Florida dealer performed on my car only dealt with the two FRONT drain tubes because those were sending sunroof rain runoff onto the front passenger floor carpeting ? So I took my car to Pine Belt Cadillac dealership in Toms River , NJ and asked what GM is doing about this. I was advised that it would cost me $188 to diagnose the cause and the repairs cost would most likely be north of $1,000. That's bad enough, however, postings by other SRX owners advise that the problem had occurred numerous times to the same vehicles. Bottom line: 1.why would GM design a hatch door that can ONLY be opened electrically with NO MANUAL OVERRIDE ? 2.Why mount the sensitive electronic components beneath the drain tubes at the lowest point of the cargo area ? 3. Why not have a drain hole in the floor of that area so the discharge of sunroof runoff drains out rather than soaking the carpeting and filling that cargo space and destroying the electronics ? Owning a Cadillac was a Bucket List item of mine. But it's a major disappointment to have to be told that a poor design will cost me more than $1,000 to make the liftgate open and know that it will occur again. 4. Because the SRX sunroof is so long and the rear half is fixed there is no easy way to access the 2 rear drain tubes because the fixed section of the roof window blocks access to the drains. I viewed a U Tube video showing a technician removing the car's interior head liner to get access to the rear drain tubes.I'd appreciate any advice or assistance (from GM ?)
