CarComplaints.com Notes: It didn't take long for the cladding to fade, discolor, and in some cases crack. Cladding is the protective plastic piece that runs along the outside of vehicles, and exposure to both heat and UV rays give the Avalanche's cladding a chalky, faded appearance.

Owners have said the problem is especially bad on the panels near the cargo bed. Eventually, GM agreed to a one-time treatment of ArmorDillo, a protective treatment similar to what you find in any auto shop. Unfortunately, that would only help for 6 months (on average).

Eventually, GM offered another coating solution for owners within the 3 year / 36,000 mile original warranty under TSB:04-08-111-001C.

The rear window molding broke due to unknown reasons leaving sharp jagged edges that my son cut his hands on. After reading in other blogs, this rear window molding separation problem in the Chevrolet Avalanche is a common wide spread problem. People have had water leak in to their vehicles causing premature and costly rust, mold, and rot problems. This is a design flaw and should be taken care of by General Motors..

The spare tire release is impossible to operate unless there are two people around. After 7 years of corrosion and rust the release mechanism wont release the tire. This is hazardous should you have a flat at 3am on the side of the highway.

(1) normal driving use - with limited usage of mid gate. (2) while raining water enters the cab through the mid gate, causing the carpet and matting to become soaked with water to the point that water pools on top of the carpet. This more than likely will result in the immediate rusting of the floor and possible growing of mold in the constantly wet carpet and matting. (3)dealership has replaced and seals on several location was well as added additional silicone, although no attempt at repair have been successful in slowing down or stopping the water.
