GM refused to cover the issue. New alternator costs about $430 and can only be purchased through the dealer, auto parts stores like NAPA don't carry it. GM said they don't know the vehicle history nor how it is driven so driving habits could have caused the failure. The alternator seized completely. Had to have it towed to mechanic and they tried to find the alternator as cheaply as possible, even tried to have the alternator sent from the dealer at no cost since alternators should last 100,000 miles plus. GM customer service said it's not a factory defect, it's a user error. I will never buy GM again since they don't stand behind their products!
