When the problem first occurs, it is no more than a sputter/jerk or just temporary loss of power. As the problem progresses the car has longer periods - 5 seconds to 10 seconds - or sometimes requires restarting if nearly stopped when it occurs. Then it is difficult to start (and usually in traffic), A gentleman and his mechanic came to try to remedy the problem and finally did for about 250 or so miles afterward. The method used to make the temporary repairs was to start the car after the fuel connections were loosened at the back of the engine (under hood near firewall) and after starting the engine. Part of the connection was pulled slightly back and part of the fuel/water emitting went into a jar held underneath collecting the fuel/water mixture. They then jacked up the right side of the car and took something loose near the gas tank (I was in the wrong position to see exactly where the fuel line was removed). He then moved the fuel line away from the tank (or fuel/water separator or strainer - I couldn't tell which and he didn't explain further). He did manage to remove water and fuel from both "under hood and under rear of car" with the motor running. After this exercise, the Aveo ran smoothly until just recently. The "Rear Under Car" task seemed rather dangerous to say to say the least but, much appreciated. The rest of the Aveo seems well designed for the weight and size class. "Thanks for the opportunity to voice concerns".
