Bought my 2005 Cavalier with 117K on it. It IMMEDIATELY needed a new timing chain. I later found out that it is a common problem with the 2.2 liter Ecotec engine found in Cavaliers. They tend to wear out at 100,000 miles or so. When I would start up my engine, I could hear the timing chain struggle to wrap itself around the gears, and then the engine would start to whine. Before I finally had it replaced, the engine light would go off, resulting in a misfire in cylinder four from the bad timing chain.
