Seemingly, allowing the key position to return to "run" from "start" before the engine starts sets the anti theft. It also causes the starter motor to "run-on" for 2 to 4 seconds after releasing the key. I've learned that when the starter run-on occurs I have to wait for about 10 minutes before the engine will start, this time being sure to hold the key in the start position until the engine starts before releasing the key .
