overheating overheating overheating

It all started when I made an appointment online for my vehicle Sapphire and she is a 2013 Chevy Cruze R/S (my very first purchased vehicle) to be brought due to overheating and concerns of my head gasket begin cracked/blown. And I say this because when my car first overheated, I replaced the thermostat and the coolant reservoir  even though it wasn’t due for a replacement. However, after replacing those parts I noticed a milky like substance on the oil dipstick and the oil cap, which indicates a problem with the head gasket.

On May 16th I spoke with Patrick at the Service Department and told him all of my concerns and that I needed the mechanic to thoroughly check the head gasket on my vehicle, I explained everything in clear detail. However, what I told was not properly documented like it should have been, which made me look and feel like I didn’t know what I was talking about when it came to my vehicle. The communication between the service department and I was terrible and I had to call the shop to check on the status of my vehicle while trying to work in a pediatrics office. Mind you, I hadn’t been on my job that long before the overheating situation occurred with my Sapphire.

The service department had my car for 3 days the first time it was brought in for repairs. I was charged close $800 the day I picked up my car and was told they had fixed the problem and that my head gasket wasn’t the problem. Unfortunately, I was lied to because my car started overheating once again and at that time I was sent a survey via email in regards to the service I received. I expressed my feelings and concerns, a lady contacted me the following day and scheduled an appointment for me to return my vehicle back to Vann York Service Department. So for the 2nd time I would be without transportation, while trying to care for my family and get back and forth to work and home. So, I asked about a loaner vehicle but I was told they don’t do that anymore due to Covid.

At that point I had to rent a vehicle for the first time and clearly informed Patrick to please have the mechanic take is time and make sure he fixed my vehicle so that I wouldn’t have to return back unless it was for routine maintenance. At that time the mechanic replaced multiple hoses, seals, a gasket, oil change etc. but didn’t reset my oil indicator. However, my car still continued to overheat and the strong smell of coolant when come through the air vent into the car causing me to become lightheaded, dizzy and highly concerned when It came to having my 2 year old daughter in the car. I was also loosing coolant throughout the whole time my car had been back and forth to the service department. I would have to check my coolant level daily to make sure it wasn’t low before going to work and taking my daughter to Early Head Start every morning. I also was in constant communication with Yaritza or someone that was a part of Chevrolet through Facebook messenger about my car on a daily basis. My Sapphire was in and out of Vann York Chevrolet service department 5 times in less than a month due to the negligence of the mechanic. And the 5th time my vehicle was brought in she had to be hauled in because the motor was knocking and had white smoke blowing out the exhaust.

I’ve spoken with Andy the Service Manager, Joe the General Manager, Josie a Business Consultant and Bryan Lawlor. And it’s like one day I’ll be told one thing and then the next day it will change. I am single mother of two kid’s, I just started my new job at a local pediatric office that meets the needs for me to be able to balance between home and work. Since, this has happened my hours have been cut and I’m at risk of loosing my job, this has affected me mentally, physically and emotionally. I’ve been judged and frowned upon due to the fact I’m a female who is well educated about cars. And given the recent research on my particular vehicle, I have expressed to everyone I’ve spoken to that, the Chevy Cruze with the turbo is known for overheating, head gasket problem, and overall coolant system issues which is why Chevrolet discontinued this particular vehicle.

I’m asking for Patrick and everyone involved as far as the mechanics to take accountability and responsibility for neglecting and ignoring my concerns which ultimately lead to the motor vehicle breaking down. Because the mechanic is now trying to place blame on me by saying I failed to properly maintain my vehicle and over filled the motor with oil. When the 4th time I picked up my vehicle she once again overheated lost coolant and oil and the check engine light came on and no oil was registering. The mechanic failed to properly seal the motor when he removed the turbo causing it to loose oil over two weeks, he was also doing process of elimination instead of following my initial concern!

It doesn’t make sense that my vehicle had to be hauled to Vann York Chevrolet to overheating on multiple occasions and now the motor has completely locked up! And everyday I’m finding new information and reviews about Chevy Cruze and head gasket issues and overheating issues but GM isn’t taking responsibility for the defective vehicles this is so unfair. I’m going to continue to complain and fight until either Vann York Chevrolet or GM do right by me and my sapphire. Just because I have a job doesn’t mean I can afford to make $600 car payments on a high mileage overpriced used vehicle the dealership is trying to force me to purchase!

I am handicapped. Car overheated in a not so good area, stopped anyways and found that coolant was low, but not out. Added coolant and continue, gauge went down briefly, then when back up and warning lights came back on. I was very near home. Checked at home and found little coolant gone. Not sure what happened, but mechanic has just told me today that the engine is fried. Over $3000 to fix. I can not afford this and I am still paying for the car. Not sure what to do.
