The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that the vehicle started to smoke while driving 10 mph. The warning indicator illuminated that the air bag was deployed. The vehicle was not in a crash and the air bag did not deploy when the incident occurred. The passenger was injured from the seat belt tightening on the shoulder. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, but was not able to be diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 190,000.

The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado. While driving 40 mph, there was a loud banging noise. The front driver and passenger side seat belts extraction buckle exploded and emitted smoke from the front driver side extraction buckle. The contact was trapped in the seat. The seat belt and service air bag warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the two front bumper sensors corroded and needed to be replaced. Also, the front driver and passenger seat belts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 107,581.

The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the mechanic diagnosed that the seat belt latch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 74,000. Updated 3/28/14 the consumer stated there were times, when the seat belt would not even latch. There were times, when the seat belt would un-latch while the consumer was driving. Updated 04/22/14

The failure and current mileages were 59,000. Updated 6/20/12 the consumer stated the seat belts locked up and now they have to be replaced. Updated 06/22/12

When this occurred there was smoke coming from the seat belt re-tractor and from underneath the drivers seat. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that it was an inadvertent deployment of the seat belt pre-tensioner. The dealer contacted the manufacturer and was told not to work on the vehicle, because they were sending someone out to inspect the vehicle. The vehicle was not inspected. The dealer inspected the seat belt and stated that they had to replace the retractor. The seat belt was under warranty nor were there any related recalls. The contact was concerned the seat belt would not work in the event of a crash. The failure mileage was 38000 and the current mileage was 46000. Updated 02/02/11
