Okay...I did not think that there was an issue with this until it happened a second time. Now this Traverse was given to my son as his first car. The power steering seemed to stop working and then comes back on repeatedly. This is a very dangerous situation for any driver, let alone a new driver.

I had my son take it to a mechanic shop to check it out and they confirmed that there is an issue with the power steering, however, they stated that it was something electrical that relates to the power steering mechanism and that we should take it back to the dealer. I told them that the service warranty is out of date because the Traverse has 115K on it so it will not be covered.

As far as I am concerned, this should be something that the Chevrolet motor company should take care of at this point. I am going to call the dealer that we have been doing business with (Ourisman Chevrolet, Bowie MD) and inquire about this issue.

The power steering system has always been noisy and difficult to steer at slower speeds. I think that this seems to be a serious issue with this vehicle. I was entering a parking lot when this happened and almost struck a car that was parked beside the space that I was attempting to park in.

Traverse Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 36,000 miles

We have been experiencing problems with the steering but this time it was scary. As my son was parking the car, the steering got locked while the car was on drive. He had to put it back on park, turn it off and turn on again in order for steering to work normal. First time it happened, took it to the dealer. They never heard that happening but said they would look into it. I am very hesitant in driving it again thinking that the steering wheel might lock as I am on the highway driving. There has not been a recall on this.

Has anyone experienced this on 2009 Traverse? The car is still at the shop and don't know what the cause was. They said that it would cost $125.00 just to take a look at it. No warranty.

Other owners of a Traverse have had same problem plus other problem. After warranty the vehicle has things go wrong and takes hundreds of dollars to fix. Best advice for anyone considering a Traverse, DON'T BUY ONE. The price tag is not inexpensive to buy or to have fixed.

We liked the seating capacity and still have room in back to put things. It's a good ride.
