This problem is really bad because you have no advance notice. You get in your car to go to work but can't get it into gear so no reverse, no going to work. It has to be towed to dealer to fix. Happened about a year ago and this week it has happened again, but I turned the wheel and car off/on..so far that has worked, but the writing is on the wall. Its happened to too many and should be a recall item. I only had about 30,000 miles on car but because it was over 5 years old it was on me.

At 40,000 miles my car would not go out of park. I called trip AAA and the young man told me he is seeing this on all the 2006 Chrysler 300 and The Dodge Chargers. It is a little pink piece that is made out of cheap plastic that would cost $25.00 to replace but when I called the dealership my car of course and it seems like mostly everyone's did not make list so they told me it could cost $750 -$1000 to replace, which I said wrong, that it should be Chrysler paying the bill not me. I have had nothing but problems with this car and will never own one again.

The piece that jammed the automatic gears to be changed from park to drive is a defect in this car. The sad part about it is now there is no safety to keep the car from being knocked into gear while the key is out of the ignition. This is a hazard, especially if young kids happened to cross over the into the front seats.

Chrysler needs to take responsibility-They have enough complaints and concerns in reference to the 2006 Chrysler 300's locking into gear due to a faulty piece..possibly made in China!! Take Responsibility...why does someone have to lose a life before this is acted on and corrected?

My 300 was parked in my garage, was going to leave for work @ 5:00am and it wouldn't shift out of park.

Tried and tried, nothing. Drove my husbands' truck to work, called the dealership. They had a shifter assembly in stock, had to get a wrecker to come pull my car out of the garage onto a flatbed trailer which I had to pay for, plus he didn't know how to get it out of the garage, so we put soap on the floor to drag it out. have no idea how they got it off the truck at the dealership, but it cost me $350 + to get it fixed. Asked if it was a recall, they said no. After reading all the engine complaints I'm a little worried, mine has 71000 miles on it now and everything is happening since my warranty ran out. Was planning on having this car for a very long time, is a little "iffy" now.........I agree with everyone else, Chrysler should have had a recall on this and fixed the problem.

Auto gear shift went out without pre-warning. Call for a tow, tower said he help other owners with the same problem. He showed me how to control manually, if this is happening with others it should have been a recall on this.

basically i am wondering why there was no mention of this problem when i did a car fax, i mean a car fax is supposed to let you know if the car you are buying is OK or NOT. I am a retired person and have owned many chrysler, dodge and jeep vehicles, because of styling, innovations and performance, i suppose the next time that i go car shopping i should not lead with my heart or not care about buying american. The next time (if i live long enough) maybe i should re-think my loyalties.

I cant believe this problem is around the board with all Chrysler and Dodge vehicles. That is so absurd. If anything, Chrysler has taught me to do extensive homework when buying my next vehicle.. which wont be a chrysler or dodge!!! My 97' Honda ran great for over 10 years until it was hit. Miss u!!

This Problem has been around for a long time. Chrysler is ignoring it. Their are thousands of complaints about this on the internet. I knew about it long before it happened to my car. I don't understand i was told by the dealership there was a recall on 2004 and 2005 chrysler 300 shifter getting stuck and they were fixing them for free. So if all Chrysler even beyond that year is having the same problems why wouldn't there be a recall for all 300's! This is a pain in the ass and getting the problem fixed only makes me think how many more times will I have to come out of pocket to fix it again!I paid 14,000 dollars for my car I shouldn't have continuously buy the same part for it.How many complaints do they need to fix this problem I guess not until it goes to the courts will it be notice.

Bought my 2006 chrysler May 2010 at Payless Auto Sales; Bakersfield, Ca.. Had problems with my car every month since I purchased it. The car would stop at idle and sometimes not start at all. I purchased an extended warranty thru portfolio during the purchase of my vehicle at Payless Auto Sales. Not only did Payless Auto Sales sell me a car that is a piece of junk but the warranty I can only use at Sedano Auto in Bakersfield ,Ca. I have taken This car to Sedano multiple times for not starting and stopping. They had the nerve to tell me nothing is wrong with it. I beg to differ when i had to be towed one time in Los Angeles back home, stalled in san diego, and in Santa Monica. Ive read there is mulitiple 2006 300's that have problems with the engine intake/manifold. Mine was replaced at about 40,000 or less mileage. Car still has problems with starting. As of the moment a new problem( which I read that is not a new problem to these vehicles); car will not change gears. Its stuck in park and my car wont even start. The lights, radio, and my automatic seats can move and work but the car itself will not turn over. At first I thought it could be the battery. No!!!! Then Ive read and dealt with Chrysler who will not fix reoccurring problems and deny the allegations of prior problems that have not been fixed nor dealt with either thru regular maintenance fix to recalling parts. I have had nothing but reoccurring problems with this vehicle. Beautiful car on the outside; under the hood is a joke. Would not recommend this year/model of car no any year or model of this vehicle. Anyone who has had these problems and actually had it repaired; I would love to know what I can do to get my car moving. I tried filing it under the Lemon Law but cannot due to not purchasing it thru Chrysler.

Trying to go to work today, my gear shift won't move out of park.

Found out that Chrysler has a customer satisfaction recall for some 300s, Dodge chargers and magnums. Apparently not mine. Chrysler states the recalls are bin specific, so even though my car breaks at the same exact spot in the gear shifter as the cars in the recall, they will not assist with my costs. The recall obviously was not broad enough to cover all of the defective bins. They missed one with me and according to my internet searches missed with a lot of other customers as well.

Missed a day of work (so far), cost me towing and $461 in repairs for a small pink plastic piece with a spring that breaks. They know the interlock switch is bad so they don't sell interlock switches and instead sell you a whole new gear shifter box with a new designed part. So basically they know its a bad part and don't sell it anymore but won't cover the bad part when it breaks in only 5 years of use. A part that also leaves you stranded when it breaks.

the only win I get is I know not to ever buy a Chrysler again.

I currently own three chrysler products. two out of the three vehicles have had the identical problem with the shifter. You put the vehicle in park and it will not shift out of park because of a plastic locking mechanism in the shifter that breaks.This has caused me to have to pay towing charges because to get the first car to the dealer to have the part replaced(300 touring) which was still under warranty at the time less than 20,000 miles. Then the 2006 charger had the exact same problem but it was not under warranty so I had to absorb the entire cost to fix. What are the chances of a person owning the vehicles from the same company and have the same problem. now I am waiting for my 300c to have the same problem. Now I've learned that Billet makes an after market part to replace the plastic piece that is the cause of the problem. Which they produce make of aluminun instead of the cheap plastic chrysler uses.

thanksgiving eve,while working girlfriend had car stopping for odds n ends preparing for turkey day.to leave out walgreens to find my vechicle wont move out of park.there was no indicator light.no different feeling .indicating i was about to be face with an issue.i call a chrsyler dealership where i have my car service to find out.my shifter gone bad..i feel this is unsafe,im a strong supporter of buying american.i would like for chrslyer to look into this matter..
