Was shopping. Left store, got in my car, put the key in & it would not turn (froze). Had to have it towed to dealership. (cross motors lou ky)......cost $1,569.....have found out that this is an on going problem with many Crossfire owners everywhere. Too many people are having problem with "defective key switch". should warrant a callback from mfgr.

There are complaints all over the internet and otherwise by crossfire loving owners who are unable to suddenly turn their key...and the dealerships charging well over a $1000 dollars to fix it, due to bad design. This should be a recall.

The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who advised him that the housing, cylinder, and the key all needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Ignition switch failure. Vehicle is now inoperable. Appears to be a jammed pin from steering column to ignition switch. It has been a recurring problem for about 6 months until it failed altogether. From the number of posts regarding this malfunction it appears a defective component as the complaints are for cars with very low mileage.

Ignition key mechanism does not work without moving the steering wheel back and forth until it releases and allows the key to start the car. Everytime the car is stopped, it can take up to 5 or more minutes to restart by moving the steering wheel back & forth while trying to turn the key. Dealership has no answers. Says replace parts are on national back order. This has been happening since we purchased the car in Feb of 2009.

Ignition key mechanism "locks" and cannot be turned to start the vehicle leaving user stranded and requiring tow. This is a recurring problem experienced by many users of this vehicle (see comments at www.crossfireforum.org; searchfor "ignition, lock, cylinder") and appears even in vehicles with very low mileage. Dealer advice is to replace the "ignition lock cylinder" which is a very expensive proposition. Some report that the new part also fails within a relatively short time. This is obviously a defective component that should be replaced with a reliable one. I was stuck in a parking lot at 112F (southwest us location) for 1/2 hour trying to get the ignition mechanism to turn. The problem appears to be due to a steering wheel locking pin that becomes jammed. If this happens while vehicle is being driven, then it could cause an accident.

The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire. While driving approximately 50 mph on normal road conditions, the vehicle hesitated when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The RPM's revved and then decreased, followed by the engine stalling. The warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel prior to the stalling. The vehicle failed to restart after several attempts. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer eight times for diagnostic testing, but they were unable to duplicate the failure. The wiring was adjusted within the computerized system. The manufacturer was notified of the failures, but there were no resolutions. The vehicle is currently inoperable and has not been repaired. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 58,556 and current mileage was 69,650.

2005 Chrysler crossfire limited, 13, 800 miles. Stops running while driving/won't start up after stopping. This has happened a total of 6 times. 1st time vehicle restarted after 20 min. Dealer repair service said wait to see if happens again, maybe the theft mode kicked in for some reason. 2nd time I stopped for gas, car wouldn't start. Like you weren't pushing in clutch but you were. Towed to dealer. Replaced clutch switch. 3rd time driving at 50 mph, car just shut completely shut off. Engine and all. Felt like hitting a brick wall. Almost hit by several vehicle including tour bus at time it happen. Vehicle towed. Dealer put in processing sensor. 4th time was slowing down for red light, vehicle shut down completely again. Towed. Dealer put new computer in it. 5th time. Stopped at bank. Left car idle mode while using atm. Car shut off. Started after about 15 - 20 min. It was after dealer hours so went home. As I pulled in drive the car shut off. Towed. Dealer put module and relay in it. 6th time. Started car in garage. Put in neutral to so car could warm up. It shut completely down. Towed. Dealer put battery in. The car has shut down while driving fast/slow/idling. In 8 weeks it has been towed in 5 times, spent 6 weeks at dealer. Unknown if vehicle fixed. It has only been back one day. Have requested area reps name, dealer/corporate refused name/contact. Spoke with corporate and dealer principle requesting a buy back and was blown off.

We just bought a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire roadster srt6. Last night (13 Mar 2006) we were driving through town. When my wife stopped at a stop sign the car stalled. Turning the key off and starting again the car started and ran. The car has only 600 miles. I read where other Chrysler have sudden stalling problems and have had recalls. Not sure if there were very few Crossfires and if they ought to be included in a recall.
