CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 is the worst year for PT Cruiser engine complaints. Having an engine light on is annoying, but it's the complaints about the engine shutting-off while driving that really have us concerned.

PT Cruiser Route 66

The OEM polished chrome wheels have a history of flaking near the rim causing the tires to deflate. I have brought the tires to 32 psi and found them down at least 5 psi in one wheel. I had my car repair store try to at least get the wheels to seal by cleaning the flaking from the rims, but never solved the problem. I have noticed flaking around the lug nuts. My complaints to Chrysler was like, oh well, we know there is a problem, but we can do nothing about it.

PT Cruiser Touring 2.5L 4 cyl

Have had two repair facilities clean up the wheels twice each (4times already) and they still leak. All repair facilities say' yeah Chrysler knows about it and other Mfrs leak also but they know about it but won't correct it'! So why won't inner tubes repair this problem? $350 for a wheel is not worth a car that gets approx16- 18 mpg! Replacement steel wheels Will be my corrective action next time. Oh yeah, the repair facilities say just bring it back, no charge. Nice offer when the tire is flat in the driveway!

PT Cruiser GT Turbo W/Chrome Wheels 2.2L Turbo

As many other Poor Souls out there said. the Chrome wheels on the PT Cruisers do not last for sh*t ! They start peeling from the back side so you don't see it starting to happen until it's TO LATE to try and correct the problem, by the time you notice the problem they are too far gone to even try to fix, I think the Wheels have a BAD CHROME PLATING JOB ON THEM, something was wrong or went wrong at the factory where the wheels were plated SHAME ON THEM for not correcting the problem once they found out about it, they should have pulled these wheels off the market and replaced the wheels already sold, not a major cost I don't think, they could have caught most of them before they left the Dealers lot, BUT NO they would rather Piss Off a whole bunch of valued customers that I'm sure will not come back. Thanks and have a nice day.

PT Cruiser 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 7,000 miles

This is my second PT Cruiser, the first (2003 model) had the same problem. The tires on this car--especially the front, deflate quickly, requiring inflation on a regular basis.

I have read on other Forums that the problem is due to flaking of the wheels, which encourages loss of air.

I expect I will have to replace not only the tires now at 25000 miles, but the wheels as well. Wondering what others with this same problem have done to remedy it. Like, what replacement wheels/tires were installed and was the problem corrected?
