So I bought this PT cruiser for my daughter from a local dealership, only 79,000 miles on it. Vehicle was purchased late fall last year and noticed that although the air was cool, it didn't get real cold. Dealership stated it just needed the Freon charged. Took the vehicle to my mechanic right before summer and was told that the condenser and hose need to be replaced at a cost of $1500! My fault for not having this checked out prior to purchase, but was amazed that this type of repair was needed for a vehicle only having 79,000 miles on it. Just found out bearings are needing to be replaced along with rotors and drums too.

PT Cruiser Touring 2.4L

The AC fan wouldn't engage. It took almost 5 hours to diagnose the problem ($400). Estimate $1000 to replace TIPM. I'll wait for the recall & hope I don't die of old age before then.

PT Cruiser

  • Automatic transmission
  • 81,000 miles

I purchased my vehicle from a dealership in 2009. Had problems from the start but all were manageable for the time being. 2 years of having the vehicle the A/C started to act up. It was only cooling if I was going down the road, but would blow hot air as soon as I slowed down or stopped. Then it completely went out. I took it back to the dealership from where I purchased the vehicle and "amazingly" the warranty went out at 80,000 miles and I had just rolled over to 81,000. So then I was told well we aren't sure what's wrong but we can look at it for so much money. I told them I didn't have the money and the guy came out the the car and started saying well it could be this or it could be that we aren't for sure until we look at it. (of course)....so after taking it to 3 different people no one has given me a definite answer as too what's wrong with the a/c. So here we are now....I have had the car for 4 years getting ready to pay it off, and 2 out of 4 years I have been with out a/c.

This is the second PT Cruiser with this issue. Researching on line I see this is a common complaint. I WILL NEVER HAVE A CHRYSLER AGAIN. I have had several other issues that i am adding to the complaints

PT Cruiser 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

I got my 2007 PT cruiser in 2009, and the air didn't work right then, now it has stopped working completely and I am told the compressor has gone out at 70000 miles and the age of 4 years old. Because of the design of the car the cost to fix the air is $575.
