The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated the ABS light illuminated on the instrument panel and the brakes began to make a grinding noise. The brake failure almost caused a crash to occur. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told the catalytic converter needed to be replaced; however, the check engine light didn't illuminate until after it was replaced. The vehicle was taken to the dealer a second time because the brakes were grinding and was told that the transmission was failing and needed to be replaced. The ABS light continued to remain illuminated on the instrument panel; however, the dealer did not duplicate or diagnose the failures. Updated 08/03/12 the consumer stated the ABS light would come on and go off all the time. Sometimes, it stayed on for long periods of time. The consumer stated she would lose braking ability and it felt as thought he brakes were shaking, slipping and grinding. She also stated she experienced extended stopping distance, in order to stop the vehicle. Updated 08/06/12

On January 1, 2007, I was driving the vehicle in my neighborhood traveling at a rate of about 25 mph. As I tapped the brakes lightly to slow down, the brake pedal pulsated rapidly and noticed the ABS light turn on. I did not bear down on the brake pedal so I do not know why the ABS system engaged. The brake light stayed on for the remainder of the day. On January 4, 2007, my wife was driving the vehicle at lunchtime and the ABS system engaged without her even touching the brake pedal. The brakes made a squealing noise at the time. Needless to say, the ABS light is back on.
