The van starts intermittently, I had the battery and alternator tested all were good but some days the van will start fine and others either the battery is drained or the shifter has to be moved up and down for it to start. I put a multimeter on battery and the system is charging. After a day or so of sitting in the garage the van usually will not start. Usually after jumping it and driving the van it will start but other times even after driving it for an hour and shutting it off it will not restart.

I'm at a loss, I didn't notice parasitic drain but I could be missing something. We bought the van with 31k miles and within a day of purchasing it the problems started. The dealership first said it was a key fob, replaced that, still no fix. I've left van with dealership for weeks at a time and they say they cannot figure out an issue. Luckily I haven't had to pay for the dealerships inability to find the problem.

Numerous times has the car not wanted to start. Especially during the week of Jan 2 2016 - Jan 8 2016. On Jan 78 2016 I was driving down the road after having all the problems all week of the engine just turning but not starting and it just stopped while I was driving down the road. Luckily I was only going 30 and had an opportunity to stop at a school that I was passing, but it was raining and there was traffic around and I had my infant son in the back seat. To not have recalled the TIPM on all vehicles with this issue is BS. Now we have to spend the money to get it fixed or trade in the vehicle, lose more money, to buy a new vehicle that is safe to drive. I will not trust the life of my family in this vehicle and this should be Chrysler's responsibility to fix this issue.

A few months ago, the battery appeared to start going bad. I replaced it and noticed that on some mornings the car would not star cleanly. I took it in to the mechanic and they had difficulty replicating the problem. The other evening, I heard a high-pitched noise coming from the van while it was parked. I couldn't locate it at the time. Next morning, the battery was completely dead. I attached an external battery source and the high-pitched noise returned. I figured it was the fuel pump or fuel pump relay that had gone bad. I had the van towed to the mechanic and he knew immediately what the problem was....bad TIPM. My frustration grew as the mechanic explained he had seen this repair numerous times on Chrysler vehicles and commented that they keep this part in stock due to the high number of repairs. After doing some quick internet research, it appears that this is a common problem with many affected owners. It's time to add me to the list A $1000 repair that appears should be covered under a recall.

Bought a new Chrysler Town and Country. Within the first 2 years, it failed to start three times. One of those times the alarm went off while I was still sitting in the car, and would not turn off until I was outside the car. Then it would start. I was told it was a faulty key, and got new keys, or new battery for the key.

Car in accident 11-6-2013. Sideswiped left side, while stationary in median.

Approximately February of 2015 car started sending me messages, with windshield wipers waving and ding ringing. By October and November, these had become much more numerous. The most frequent message was “blind spot control not working”, but others that appeared were “fuel gauge empty,” and “check tire pressure”. The car was working fine, and all messages were false. They occurred on average 4-6 times a day, but on longer drives it was 15 plus times.

In October,2015 I took the car into the Overland Park Chrysler and Jeep Dealership. They worked on it for 6 days and were unable to fix it. They provided me with a car, and didn’t charge me, as nothing had improved. They told me they had asked Chrysler experts for help. This all doubtful, as we found later that these 2011 vans were having an extreme amount of trouble with TIPM systems, and that lawsuits had started in 2013

Nov. 27th2015 Car parked in a grocery lot. Standing 5’—6’away, I touch the lock button on the key, and the car starts its engine. I do not have a remote starter,

Dec. 14, 2015, I’m just pulling to a stop in the driveway---car suddenly surged forward, going through the garage door and into shelves and a tractor at the back of the garage. Air bags did not deploy, Car is totaled.

The problem became evident when the battery would be drained overnight, I thought some electrical component must have been left turned on, but that was not the problem. After checking for this problem online I discovered that it has happened to other owners of the same type of vehicle as mine. All the problems people were having was traced to the TIPM, and the fuel pump relay was the component causing the problem. Its contact points inside were welding together, causing the fuel pump to continue to run even after the vehicle was shut off.

I checked with Chrysler customer care to see if there was a recall for this problem on my vehicle, they said no and didn't seem interested in helping me. I went back online and checked for some tutorial to fix the TIPM, there is a way to repair this problem and replace the relay, which cost about $12.00. It is a big job removing and disassembling the TIPM, it took me about 4 hours total to finish the job, but it was a lot cheaper than purchasing and having a new TIPM installed.. So booo on Chrysler, this is my 3rd Town & Country and I think it will be my last. And yes this did fix the problem.

My wife drove our kids down to Myrtle Beach in July (as I had to work and was coming down later in the week). She called me while driving and told me the check engine light just came on and a odd smell began, she pulled over to the side of the road and turned the car off. Once she turned it off it wouldn't start and she called USAA to have a tow truck sent over. They towed it do a auto repair shop down in Myrtle and they diagnosed the issues and said the van needed a new battery and alternator (both were bad). So we got it fixed to a tune of $986.

After reading more and more about the TIPM malfunctions and the known issues, this must have been the reason these issues occurred. The van only had 76,000 miles on it at the time of the incident so I can't imagine the parts were bad by then. Chrysler needs to recall this part as it's a huge issue and the van is not trustworthy.

More recently in the mornings beginning in early November my wife is having issues starting the car. We dropped it off at a local (trustworthy) repair shop to have them check it all out and the cleaned the battery cables and couldn't get it to replicate what i was claiming. When you would try and start it it would just continue to turn over like it wanted to start but wouldn't do anything. They checked everything once i got it to replicate this issue and no error codes came up anywhere. After doing some research he told me a way to "trick" it to start. Turn the key let it prime for a minute and repeat this a couple of times. If it starts up after that then there is a issue with the fuel pump. So we've been doing this now for a while and it seems silly to replace a fuel pump if the TIPM is the real issue here. It's causing my fuel pump to act like it's not working.

So at the end of the day I'm hoping Chrysler does the right thing and issues a recall for this part. Many of you on this forum are stating very similar issues. I checked the class action lawsuit in which Chrysler settled and VA was not one of the states listed.

After time and time into Chrysler dealer, car will not start! And have brought in and they cannot figure it out! I press key button start and will not start, feels like gas is not getting to it!

My car stalled on highway and when pulling out of bank in front of a truck.

I just put in the fuel pump bypass cable produced by Vertical Visions and works fine for now.

Please let me know if people are having same problem. Will wait for Lawsuit for Chrysler to fix!

I had parked my vehicle for approximately 20 minutes, when to unlock the doors and absolutely no power. Had to use key to get into vehicle. Put key fob into ignition and the vehicle would do nothing. The ignition wouldn't turn.....nothing. The vehicle was completely dead. Had it towed to the dealership where I was advised that the battery had no voltage and that I would need to purchase a battery so they could run diagnostics. I purchased a battery and was then advised that the problem is the TIPM. I purchased an extended warranty with this vehicle and was told that it was like a "new car" warranty however, low and behold this part isn't covered. Now I am stuck with a large bill to fix a vehicle for a part that Chrysler knows is a problem but refuses to do a recall.

My car began to have trouble starting. Little by little it got worst so I start to look this up online as to the possible causes and I came across the issue with the tipms. Sure enough took my car to the dealer and ( because it would'n t start at all) and found out it was the tipm 1068.00 on a defective part that should have been recalled. Chyslers are off my list.

Well after having my 2011 Chrysler Town and Country Touring L in the shop for a week due to a failed TIPM, a repair for $1200.00 I drove it for less than 24 hours when the dash light shut down while I was driving. I pulled into a gas station, shut the vehicle off, and it would not start again! All electrical shut down just like a week ago. I had to have it towed to the nearest dealer again!!!

Well guess I have the same problems as many others at this point. End of August my wife told me the van was acting funny and not wanting to start some mornings. Told her I would check and try to find out what the problem was. Next morning the van would not start of even turn over. After taking my wife to work went back home and jump started the van and if fired right away.

Took it to local dealer where we purchased the van and they called to say battery was bad. Figured ok well it was a 2011 van and it is 2015 so maybe battery was bad. Had new battery put in car and a week later the van will not start again...... Took back to dealer to check and see if something else was wrong. Guess what... they think the TIPM is bad. dealer is a Chevy dealer where we purchased the van in Dec of 2011 as program car with around 20000 miles on it. Said they were not sure if that was the problem or not but have seen others with this problem. They checked to see if any warranty still in effect and no we are just out of the warranty.

Told them I wanted a second opinion before I spent over 1000 dollars to get this fixed. The Chevy dealer gave me car back with a bill just over 200 dollars for diagnosing this possible problem. Talked to Dodge dealer who said it could be TIPM problem but the also showed two "updates" that our van needed on of which was a re-flashing of the computer. After re-flashing of the computer problem still existed. Did more testing where they wired up a test light and had me drive van for about a week to verify it was the TIPM and not fuel pump.

When this was all going on I got on computer and found tons of postings about TIPM problems including a just settled class action lawsuit where Chrysler settled to replace TIPM units in 2011 Dodge Durango and 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee but is refusing to settle on the same year Chrysler Town and Country.... Dodge/Chrysler knows this is and issue and has already said the TIPM that was used in the same year of other vehicles with is bad. They should be forced to replace these units also. Have talked to Chrysler but so far they are not helping with this problem

Update from Nov 6, 2015: After some talking to Chrysler they came through..... The local dealership Silverthorne Chrysler in Robinson Illinois found the problem. They hooked a test light up to the TIPM unit to see if when the problem was taking place if the fuel pump was getting power or not. I drove the van for about a week letting it act up and keeping track of when the light was on or off. Used some of the tricks that I found on this website and others to keep starting it up. I also got onto Chrysler's website and filled out a form that popped us asking if I wanted to talk to someone. I talked figuring that I was just talking to a computer with pre-programmed responses. I did get a response from Chrysler and they kept calling and sending emails about the problem until it was fixed. When I went to get the van the dealership said Chrysler had been talking to them also and was trying to figure out a way to help with my 1200 dollar total bill. They told me to take the van drive it a couple of days and they would get ahold of me to make sure it was fixed and settle up on the bill... Next day the dealership called and said Chrysler was going to pay the repair bill except for 150 dollars the most warranties would have required as a deductible. Sill had some out of pocket cost but it was a hold lot better then the original bill. Overall when Chrysler was called directly they came through. It also helped that they knew that I knew about the class action lawsuit that was just settled in September of this year on the same TIPM units in the same year as my van on the Jeep grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango's. If they do settle or have a recall in the future on my van was told that I could still get my money back on the 150 dollar detectable. Over all was happy with the dealership who went out of there way to try and help and Chrysler did ok considering there was no recall at this time. Just took some extra work on my part to talk to Chrysler directly.

In August the van was taken in to Larry Miller in Provo Utah for service do to a change or degradation in performance and the backup camera not working. The service center conveyed back that they could not identify a problem after a few point inspection. My response back to the dealer was that there is a problem, look deeper. The dealer inspected further and conveyed back they found a problem with cylinder 3 and replaced the spark plugs in 1,3 & 5. They also pushed for a transmission flush, which we agreed to. We were then told the problem had been fixed and we could come pay and pick up our vehicle.

When we arrived to pick up the vehicle the van battery was completely dead. We then asked the service center what had happened to our battery, at which they replied that sometimes this happens when vehicle has been sitting for a while. They jump started the van. We took the vehicle on a drive to check to see if they performance was better. We ended up needing a jump and purchasing a battery that same day. With the brand new battery installed we thought the problems would go away. We have been having problems getting the van started since we picked the van up from the service center. We have taken the van in 6 times since we originally picked it up.

The first visit back they dealer told us it was our new battery. I picked it up from them and took it to two independent auto parts stores to have it thoroughly tested. Both tests proved the battery was in top shape, brand new. I took the battery back to the dealer to give them the news and print outs. They kept the car for 4 days and finally stated they think they had fixed the issue. They told us they upgraded some computer, I think the TIPM or whatever. Nope! We went to pick it up and couldn’t get the thing started. So we left it for them again.

This time they soldered the positive battery wiring. They then told us they could not reproduce the issue and that we could pick up the vehicle. It started up right way at the dealership, but the next day we were back to having issues again. And as a matter of fact the only thing they managed to “fix” was removing the housing around the battery and not replacing it.

So, back to the dealer again. Again they gave us the run around and told us they could not reproduce the problem. We pushed them and they finally dug some more. They soldered some more wiring and again sent it home with us. Was it working? No, still had issues.

Back again. This time they fixed some bent pin somewhere in the cables and replaced some transistor or something. They tried to blame the bent pin on us when they and Chrysler are the only ones to have ever worked on the van. They stated they tested the car “200 times” and cannot reproduce the issue. The problem still exists, we have it on video several times.

The service center states they are doing everything they can to fix the issue. We feel we are getting the run around primarily because the person(s) working on the vehicle are not properly trained and it is still under the Pre-Owned Certified warranty. By the way backup camera was never fixed.

Folks I've scoured to the end of the Internet and found one SUPER useful idea please click this http://verticalvisions.com/TIPM_solutions.php this bypasses the fuel pump relay that is bad within the TIPM housing (or motherboard). I've copied this guys wore to a T and it works wonders. You can find everything at Autozone (or buy it from this guy). This will cost you no more than $20!! Now, this is a recommended temporary fix so I plan on sending my TIPM module here to be fixed for around $300 roundtrip(see below). The issue is that ONE $5 part is broke within the module but it is SUPER complex to take a part and fix (for most common folks). Keep in mind this is JUST for fuel pump relay issues within the TIPM ( which most of you are having). DO THIS BEFORE YOU TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. Dealership wanted to charge be $120 for a diagnostic and you know how much for TIPM replacement. This not only diagnosis your issue but FIXES it. This is by far the cheapest route until Chrysler pulls their heads out of there ass and fixes it for us. GOOD LUCK!

We purchased this van a year ago, fell in love with it when we saw it at the dealership. My wife went out to start it last week and it wouldn't start. Just cranked and cranked, then after several tries, it started up like nothing was wrong.

Took it to our mechanic and they said it was something electronic so would have to go to the dealership. First trip to the dealership, they told us they couldn't replicate the problem, which I basically told them that they were crazy because it has done it every morning for the last week. I had to drive there and show them a video I took of it doing it. Finally narrowed it down to the TIPM, which by the way is on back order for God knows how long, and not only do we have to pay for it, but they aren't giving us a loaner car because they aren't sure how long it will be for the part. So... now what? I have no vehicle and have no idea how long it will be.

Chrysler is doing nothing to help even though there are hundreds of complaints about this issue- the have recalled the Durangos and Cherokees for the same problem but failed to do anything with the Grand Caravans and Town and Country... We bought a $25,000 vehicle so we didn't have issues like this... I've always been a Chrysler person myself but am having second thoughts about our next vehicle.

Had to have our van towed to the nearest dealership that could fit us in this week, which is 20 miles away. After diagnosis, they say it needs a new TIPM, but my extended warranty doesn't cover it. There are 2 in the area for $1,280 if we act soon. Otherwise, they're on backorder from anywhere else. Now, I'm looking at paying the $1,280 out of pocket in hopes of getting the extended warranty company to pay me back. We REALLY need our van back to transport our family of 6. Had to buy a 3rd vehicle just we could have transportation in the mean time. Just didn't make sense to rent a car for however long it would take to repair it. Really wish Chrysler would make this a recall item, considering all the problems that people have had.
