My Chrysler Town and Country has serious electrical issues. It started with the radio shutting off and restarting by itself, which is not a serious issue at all. But yesterday, at a red light, the radio shut off and so did the car. The engine stopped working, the accelerator pedal would not respond. It was terrifying. Thankfully we were at a red light, but if this were to happen on a busy highway, or even just on a regular street with traffic, it could be a life threatening situation. From what I have researched online, this is a common problem with Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge cars. Legal action has been taken and class action lawsuits were filed to address this matter. The Center for Auto Safety (CAS) asked this very own NHTSA to open an investigation into faulty TIPM, which seem to be the problem that causes these cars to very dangerously completely shut off even while driving, causing drivers to lose control of the steering and of the brakes. The CAS estimated 7 million Chrysler vehicles have power issues related to the TIPM. One month after receiving a class action lawsuit, Chrysler issued a recall for 189.000 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee with bad TIPMS. 189.000. Out of SEVEN MILLION. This is absurd. It seems as if Chrysler is waiting for someone to be killed due to this issue so they can take it seriously and actually issue the recall to all the cars that have this problem, not a tiny fraction of them and not only because it is directly related to a lawsuit. Unfortunately, despite multiple claims throughout the years that not only this is a common problem with Chrysler, but that the corporation is well aware of it and negligently refuses to address the issues, the NHTSA rejected the CAS petition to investigate this problem. Proof is definitely not amiss, as a quick internet research will produce thousands upon thousands of reports of the same problem on the same car. This needs to be a recall URGENTLY, and not only after someone dies.

I'm not sure what exactly happened, the vehicle is pending investigation. I attempted to stop the vehicle, pressing the brakes down as hard as possible, and the vehicle wouldn't stop. The other vehicle was hit from behind at a light I was probably going around 40 mph. Also, when we first bought the vehicle it had a habit of turning off while driving. Finally got that fixed. It turned out to be the master power cylinder or something like that.

The telematics module goes bad in these models. Loosing all gauges and wiper control without warning. This often results in costly diagnostics that leave the driver in an unsafe vehicle. The vehicle will still drive and operate. This can happen in motion or stationary.

08/12/2017: I left my home & had only traveled a short distance & the entire vehicle stopped working. There was no power. The instrument panel was black & the engine was not running. I pulled to the side of the road as best I could with no power steering or brakes. I turned the key to off. I attempted to restart the vehicle. It took 3 tries to get it started. I did not drive it again until the next day. The problem did not occur again. It is now at the second dealership waiting for diagnosis. I also have an escalated case open with Chrysler customer service. 8/9/2017: I had to take my daughter to the doctor for an emergency appointment. I started the vehicle. Backed it down the driveway. Put it in park. The vehicle stopped working. The instrument panel went dark & the engine stopped. It took 8 tries to get it restarted. I did call & report the problem to the dealer. 8/3/2017: I took my vehicle into the dealer for the same problem. It was failing to start the day before. It took 3-4 tries. It also randomly shut itself off when I put it in park. Also once when I put it in drive. I reported this to the dealership upon dropping it off. They drove the vehicle 60 miles & could not replicate the problem. It never shut off while they drove it. They returned it to me but did note the error codes when they ran a diagnostic that the vehicle had had some type of failure. 7/11/2017: I had the vehicle at the dealership I purchased it used from a year prior. They diagnosed the failure to start & random power black-outs while driving as a screw being loose on the battery terminal. Charged me $200 to tighten a screw & sent me on my way. Spring 2017: Contacted orig. Dealership. The vehicle was doing something odd. The instrument panel had gone black, the wipers were running at full speed & could not be shut off, yet the vehicle was still running. 08/10/16: Engine light

There are about 10 to 12 times that I have tried to engage my cruise control and it would not come on. The only way that I could get to come as it should, was to pull off the road and cut the engine off and restart it and it would most likely start to work. I just wonder what else is not working when this happen. I did call cryrsler and report it as well as had the dealership make a note on his work sheet. I have not received a call from anyone. Thank you for your help

"last March I was driving on highway in rush hour, 60 ? 65 mph. Van shuts off, breaks do not work, and steering wheel is locked. All I could do is wait until the van coasted to a stop; I put it in park and then started it back up again in order to exit the expressway. ?took the van in. They kept it for over a week and then told me that they replaced something with the brakes and now it is working fine. "(11/04/14), I was on vacation in Ohio. Going 40 mph and the same thing happened. Again, I was lucky and no accident. "took the van to nearest dealership. They charged me $79 to check out the car ? and they did not find anything. I would have thought that would have been a covered charge. ?Chrysler ?escalated my ticket to corporate? and they also asked me if I felt safe driving my van home. I did not feel safe ? but really did not see a choice because all the dealership and the surrounding car rental places had to offer me was a small car and I had 3 people, luggage and a wheelchair to get home. ?I drove side roads home " the total trip took me an additional 9 hours instead of 4.5. (11/06/14) the car shut down again on me " no one was on the road at the time. "(11/07/14) ray laetham dealership in grosse pointe, Michigan. "11/12/14 dealership asked several questions about the car and said the engineers at Chrysler have given them additional things to try "11/14/14 dealership tells me I can pick up my van. Engineers have decided that it must have been the E85 gas that I had been using "which has been known to cause problems" even though that is the gas that I was told to use. Hopefully I will survive the last 6 months of my lease. I have a van that I cannot drive my family in.

Life threatening situation occurred while driving our 2013 Chrysler Town and country minivan. We were traveling on the New York state thruway, utilizing the cruise control and as we attempted to pass a tractor trailer the accelerator stuck. My husband was driving and had lost total control of the vehicle other than steering. We were traveling at 65 mph. Our 9 year old was in the car and began to panic and cry. We frantically tried to remedy the situation which lasted 30-40 seconds then resolved on its own. Thank goodness there were no cars in our immediate path or we would have reared ended them or been forced to drive into the median.

The Michelin tires, energy saver A/S are defective and dry rotting causing a potential blowout and accident. The accelerator is positioned too far forward and the brake is positioned too far back, causing the foot to slide under the brake when changing over from acceleration to braking. A very serious problem and defect in the design and workmanship of this vehicle.
