Oil leakage. I-??ve read numerous reports online with the same year make and model about oil leakage we bought this car used without doing and research first just because we needed a car. And when I notice the oil leak I-??ve been doing research and a lot of people have had the same problem causing people to spend ALOT of money to fix it which could have been prevented.

On 9/29/23 while traveling on Rt 17 West in the town of Goshen, NY my vehicle experienced an unexpected loss of motive power. The vehicle was towed to the dealership I purchased it from in Newburgh, NY and diagnosed with multiple trans failures requiring a new transmission. My husband contacted Chrysler Customer Service 800-992-1997. There is a recall S44 on 2015/2016 Dodge Grand Caravan/Chrysler Town and Country vehicles with 3.6L engines - code ERB, and automatic transaxle - code DG2 built from July 31, 2015 thru April 18, 2016. Chrysler told us there is no recall and recalls are based on the VIN. Recall S44 - The transaxle oil pump may experience a loss of hydraulic oil pressure due to an improperly manufactured transaxle oil pump. A loss of transaxle hydraulic oil pressure while driving will result in a loss of motive power and could cause a crash without warning. This is what I experienced when my failure occurred. I spoke with one of the service managers at the dealership's repair shop and he gave me the following information: Build Date: 2/19/2016, In Service Date: 3/1/2016, Engine Code: ERB, Transaxle Code: DG2. The complaint I filed with Chrysler is closed - Case# 87563929. They were not going to help us. I have owned a Dodge Grand Caravan, and 2 Chrysler Town and Countries over the span of 20 years while raising my 3 children and still drive one to this day. The build date, engine code, and transaxle code all fall under the guidelines of the recall. Chrysler Customer Service told us my vehicle does not qualify for recall repair. I have incurred the following expenses due to this failure: Towing to dealership $281, Car Rental, 7 days $526, New Transmission $6841, Totaling $7648. Please investigate this complaint for recall S44. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Transmission pump failure resulting in gear slippage and loss of power while my wife was driving. Entered the highway and attempted to accelerate and bring car up to speed to match other cars. Car reached 55 mph but could not go faster and did not shift into higher gear. Noticed a high pitch noised coming from engine compartment. Over the course of a few hours the car would lag when shifting into reverse and would lurch forward when it did kick in. The car was taken to NAPA for a diagnostic where they diagnosed a problem with the transmission and that the car had transferred into "limp" mode. We were informed by Jet Automotive the transmission requires an overhaul.

I have a 2016 Town and Country with 83k miles on it. While backing out of a crowded parking lot after my Childs baseball game, my transmission had failed. My car would not go back into drive, therefore I was rolling backwards. There were multiple people around and I could have seriously hurt someone or myself and my children. After it rolled back a bit, the transmission finally shifted and went into drive. At that point the car jolted forward and I was able to move to a safer location, while the car then went back to having no power. My children and myself were left stranded. The car has been towed and checked on by a mechanic. The trans pump has failed. Chrysler has a recall, s44, but conveniently my car is not covered by it. I am not sure why this very serious and dangerous incident happening with these vehicles would have ANY cars that were not part of this warranty. Chrysler needs to do better. This issue, with a build date of 9/2015 should be part of this recall, which has a build date of July 31,2015 through April 18,2016.

While driving with my children, my 2016 Chrysler Town & Country Limited Platinum van started to make a loud whining noise and then it started lurching forward. I could tell it tried switching gears but transmission was slipping. There was no errors given. This happened suddenly. Vehicle has 88,000 miles. I drove home, but barely made it home as it wouldn't switch gears smoothly. I had it towed to transmission shop. They said the transmission was shot and needed replaced or complete rebuild. Error code give was P0844 loss of hydraulic pump prime.

When I was driving my children to daycare the car suddenly lost power and was unable to drive over 20 mph. Fortunately, it was early in the morning and the road I usually travel was not as busy as it is later in the day. The RPMs were jumping and the car was jerking around. Luckily, I was able to pull into a residential area and call for a tow. No warning lights came on in the vehicle and I was traveling on a main road with a speed limit of 50 MPH when the problem occurred. I had the transmission replaced and the mechanic said this is a very common problem with the 2016 Town and Country and upon further inspection I read that over 20,000 of these make and model vehicles were recalled for the same exact type of transmission failure. I doubt my mechanic has the old transmission still in his possession but I have receipts of what exactly was repaired.

My van will sporadically lose power and stall while driving down the road. I have to put in back in park to restart the van to continue on down the road. It's been scary driving with my 3 kids in the van. I'm afraid the stalling out is going to cause me to get into a collision. I had it in a shop recently and they told me that it was related to a recall S44 or 16V461000, but they didn't have a tech who could do the repair to the transmission. But another shop says that my van doesn't have any recalls even though my van falls within all the parameters of the known safety recall.

Owner was driving car and noticed high pitch whir at low speed upon entering the highway, had the radio been on then this noise would not have been noticed. Driver was able to exit the highway. Upon reaching a stoplight the vehicle revved up to 60mph then down to zero. When barely compressing the gas this occurred again. Owner quickly turned off and on vehicle hoping to reset whatever was happening. Upon restarting and barely pressing gas the vehicle lurched forward with high rpm. Driver was in high traffic area at height of rush hour, but was able to cross 4 lanes of traffic to a side street. Car was towed to dealership where it was confirmed that the transmission pump had failed and metal shards had gone through the transmission causing full replacement to be needed. No warning lights went off on vehicle and vehicle had been serviced regularly with no warning of failure. Loss of control of vehicle in heavy traffic was unexpected and dangerous. Vehicle had 49,787 miles at time of failure.

The transmission pump failed suddenly, resulting in severe slippage in the transmission and loss of motive power for the vehicle. The vehicle struggled to stay up to road speeds on the highway until I could get it parked in a safe place to get my family out of the vehicle. Later on that day, I tried to take the vehicle around the block, to which it barely would make it back to it's starting point it was slipping so badly. A local Chrysler dealer has diagnosed the transmission is bad specifically citing a bad pump in the transmission. There were no warning lamps or indicators alerting us to this problem, just the sudden failure of the transmission putting me and my family in an unsafe situation. This vehicle meets all the criteria of a Chrysler Town and Country listed on Recall 16v-461 (S44 within FCA's nomenclature). The build date of our van falls squarely within the build date window listed in the recall. Recall states 7/31/15 through 4/18/2016 build dates are affected--our van states Build date of 11/15 on the door jamb. However, after contacting multiple dealerships and Chrysler themselves, they claim our van is not a part of this recall as the VIN number is not associated with the recall. I don't understand. The recall calls out the failure of the transmission oil pump, and that is the exact part that has failed on our van causing an unsafe sudden failure of the transmission in our van. I think it is a failure on FCA's part to not associate all the vehicles with this recall that in reality should be associated with this recall. This is wrong.
