Avenger SXT 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 5,000 miles

Lights were in the AUTO position while driving, drove about 6 miles stopped vehicle, when I restarted the vehicle to drive away the lights were not on. Stopped vehicle turned it off turned it back on still nothing. Turned switch to see if that would fix and the AUTO light feature still would not work. Used the regular headlight feature and continued to try the auto but still nothing. Turned car off several times trying to get it to work, which it did not. Turned car off went out about 30 minutes later started it back up and lights worked. Again I am told everything is working there are no codes coming up and without duplicating this they can not find it to fix it. I'm wondering what will happen if I'm driving down the interstate during the evening and I myself duplicate it without warning. Then what? SAFTEY ISSUE!!!!!!

Update from Jul 11, 2013: Lights do not turn on until it is pitch black and not always do they turn on, owners manual states the lights will turn on according to the Ambient Light. If driving at dusk the lights do not turn on, when it becomes dark they do not turn on when it the auto position. The only time Auto lights work is when it is already pitch black and the vehicle is started. Dealer states lights are working fine are within acceptable change, Dealer told Chyrsler all issues due to Owner unfamiliar to vehicle. Was told when I purchased the car if I left lights on Auto lights would be on all the time. I would say I am unfamiliar with what is going on because they were working for the first 3200 miles at least.

Update from Jul 17, 2013: Car was taken to another dealer who actually took a little more time with my car. Although everything appeared to be working, no codes showing up they were able to see that the lights were not working and found it was the censor on the dash was not working as it should. Censor was replaced, we will see if this does the trick.
