This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The A/C / heater blows hot air on driver side and cold air on passenger side. Difficult to defrost windshield. Replaced the blend door actuator behind glove box. This only fixed the clicking noise. Problem still exists.
It doesn't matter if the car is moving or if it is stationary, there is only warm air on the drivers side and there is cold air blowing out on the passenger side. Only the drivers half of my windshield will defrost. I have replaced the actuator twice and it does not help. The clicking under the dashboard not only returns, but the heat (or lack-there-of) is not affected. It still only blows warm air on the drivers side of the car. The defrost only works on the drivers side of the car. I understand there are many complaints of this happening to Avengers across the board, no matter the model type. All due it looks like to casting and sand issues. After flushing the car multiple times, there has been no change. Replaced the heater core/thermostat ($850) and the heat worked for about a week then started blowing cold air again. I took it back and they replaced the heater control panel. ($275). Cold air again......... there needs to be a recall of something to fix this issue. Nothing is working and it's only costing a whole bunch of money.
Heater blowing cold air on the passenger side. It blows very little hot air only on the driver side. The defrost does not work hardly at all due to this situation. This all started happening about a year and a half to 2 years after purchasing my vehicle brand new. I feel like it's dangerous to drive this car when the defrost is needed. I took my car to a Dodge dealer last week and paid to have my car flushed in hopes of making the heater work. That didn't help so they said that I would have to buy a new heater core. So after owning a brand new car for a year and a half to 2 years should not in my opinion need a new heater core. I've been reading a lot of reviews on these cars and I see where lots of people are complaining of the same exact thing as myself. Something must be wrong with the making of this particular car.
Heater blowing cold air on passenger side. Dealership states heater core is plugged up and needs to be replaced. It is a known issue and a manufacturer's defect. Recall should be implemented.
I have a ticking noise coming from my glove department I took in to a shop to find out it's my vent actuator this part only cost about 30$ but the labor is what's cost the most I was told they have to go through the glove department to get to the part where does this come from and why haven't this been on recall yet I've googled this situation and found out that it's been going on since 2011 in Dodge cars and trucks and vans so I'm not the only person with this problem
On September 26 2016, the driver's side headrest exploded and came lose (for no apparent reason). Experiencing headache due to the bump on my head. Despite the vehicle being only three years old, and with just 56000 miles, the radiator and air conditioning systems have been replaced! 2013 Dodge Avenger is not a safe car to drive and needs to be thoroughly investigated for quality and safety. The headrest explosion happened while the engine was off and was about to exit the vehicle inside my garage.
The transmission is the problem. I was driving when the car started making noises and stopped on a hill. I was able to roll down the hill backward, and turn into a park entrance before the car came to a complete stop. I turned off the car started it again and this time it wouldn't move when I put it in gear even though the engine was running. We had the car towed to the dealer and to date it still has not been looked at.
Recently purchased this vehicle and after a week and a half, noticed that my car is not gearing correctly on its own and at times decelerates when trying to accelerate. Also when shifting vehicle from park, reverse, drive, etc... it makes a jump with a loud noise.
My vehicles stalls while driving on the highway and its an automatic. I keep my regular maintenance on it. This has almost caused 3 different accidents on multiple occasions. When I stop my car almost acts as though it wants to shut off. In order to pick speed back up I midst floor it to even get moving anywhere. This is very unsafe seeing as though I have a 2 yr old. Something must be done. I'm insuring a car that has had recalls for this very same issues and now Dodge tells me they'd have to charge me $115 for a diagnostics test.
While approaching a stop sign, I did hit the breaks, I felt a jolt however the car never stopped. The car did skid across a highway, and land in a ditch. There was extensive front end damage, however no air bags deployed. Bothe me and my minor child were removed from the vehicle by emergency response teams. We did both sustain injuries. The vehicle was unable to be driven and was towed.
