CarComplaints.com Notes: The first year of the new Dodge Dart had a rough start, with owners reporting a disproportionate number of engine and transmission problems.

For transmission, the main complaints are transmission failure & rough shifting. So far, average mileage for transmission failure is 25,000 miles. Not good.

For engine problems, it usually starts with the engine light coming on for any number of reasons: bad sensors, ignition coil replacement, bad wiring, faulty gas cap ... dealers are replacing various components with varying degrees of success, or telling owners they can't duplicate the issue.

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

Bought car from used car dealer. I had the car 6 months. I had to stop on a hurry and I hit the brakes. The pedal went to the floor and I hit the person in front of me at 35 mph. The car was not driveable. My kids were in the car and the airbags never went off. Two days after I had the accident I got a brake failure recall letter from Dodge (too late). It ended up being a loss because the amount to fix the car was $10,640. I owed $14600 on the car. The insurance company (State Farm) paid the bank the $10,640 and I'm stuck with the rest to pay off with no car. State farm hired an forensics company to investigate the issue. They found 13 hidden error codes on the cars computer and one was airbag failure, low brake vacuum and other problems with the computer and sensors.

Both the insurance company (State Farm) and the forensics company both declared the car a manufacturing defective auto. State Farm was going to sue Dodge to get their money back and told me go get a lawyer and good luck. No lawyer wanted to take the case because there were no injuries and there isn't enough money to make from the case. So now I'm paying $360 for the car till it's paid off and nobody wants to do anything to help me.

I purchased this car in Sept. 2013. I have had nothing but problems. I travel a lot and can not depend on this car. I feel unsafe at all times. I was in downtown traffic this time. I was able to fight with the steering to get the car on the shoulder of the road.

In the first year, I had to replace all four tires and the windshield. This past year I have had to replace the battery twice...because I am told that is why my steering and brakes are failing. The back up camera has reflected the image upside down.... THE DEALERSHIP IS WORTHLESS.

I was unable to stop and went through a stop light. Thank heavens, for no cars in the intersection. The steering went out at the same time.

The dealership was and is no help! They want to keep my car for two weeks, then look at it...."it could take up to 4 weeks before we know what the problem is" "No loaner car!"

brakes failed to engage, pedal went all the way down

I picked up my friend from her apartment and started driving towards a major street. I was going about 30 mph, as I was approaching the stop sign I pressed on the brake pedal and it made a sound. The car did not slow down. I pulled on the parking brake and it didn't stop the car. I kept pressing on the brake pedals but they wouldn't engage. I end up crashing into a vehicle, kind of like T-boning the crossing car. My car was declared totaled. Estimated mileage at 36,200. El Paso, Texas.
