CarComplaints.com Notes: The first year of the new Dodge Dart had a rough start, with owners reporting a disproportionate number of engine and transmission problems.

For transmission, the main complaints are transmission failure & rough shifting. So far, average mileage for transmission failure is 25,000 miles. Not good.

For engine problems, it usually starts with the engine light coming on for any number of reasons: bad sensors, ignition coil replacement, bad wiring, faulty gas cap ... dealers are replacing various components with varying degrees of success, or telling owners they can't duplicate the issue.

Really can't say how much I hate this car. I think there must have been a contest the way the dealership pushed this dart on us. I thought we would love it but we are on transmission issue number 2 barely 50k mile in. The extended warranty company would only agree to a used transmission and they don't get any history on the used parts!! They didn't even know how many miles it had on it! Really upset with this vehicle, and the issues continue!

Dart Areo SE 1.4L L4 Turbo/Multiair

  • Automatic transmission

Doing 55 then heard grinding noise like shifting into gear without pushing clutch in. This car is an automatic !!! 3 seconds later Service Transmission light came on. Tech could not find issue with trans. at this time. Reset display and has reported it to Chrysler. Reported clicking noises, and jerky shifting about a month ago. Sti;ll no answers. I guess I will just sue Chrysler when I'm doing 60mph, and transmission locks up and kills someone.

This is a bad situation with this vehicle, and will never buy Chrysler again. They need to recall all the 2013 models and take care of the transmission problems these cars are having. Tech. at Dodge told me I'm not the only one complaining. Engineers at Chrysler are stalling on this !!!!
