CarComplaints.com Notes: The first year of the new Dodge Dart had a rough start, with owners reporting a disproportionate number of engine and transmission problems.

For transmission, the main complaints are transmission failure & rough shifting. So far, average mileage for transmission failure is 25,000 miles. Not good.

For engine problems, it usually starts with the engine light coming on for any number of reasons: bad sensors, ignition coil replacement, bad wiring, faulty gas cap ... dealers are replacing various components with varying degrees of success, or telling owners they can't duplicate the issue.

problem #3

Dart 5.8L V6

  • CVT transmission
  • 60,000 miles

  1. Because the vehicle is so low to the ground, it’s undercarriage shield (which feels like cardboard) keeps dragging no matter I try to do to fix it.

    2. Drivers window controller popped out (I’ve had the car for two years).

    3. Lack of pick up in transmission (even right after fresh oil change - its expensive)

    4. Gears grinding since I got it from Carmax

    5. Driving stick is too flimsy from the start. A slight nick with my hand moves the shifter into automatic n automatically.

    6. Vehicle system is off and even when I fill the tires with the current “34 psi” the system doesn’t show the tires are up to par - ever. The light doesn’t go off anymore.

    7. Can feel the car moving by itself while driving - gets worse everyday. (Little scary)

Dart Limited

  • Automatic transmission
  • 17,000 miles

I have been dealing with this problem for over a year now and so far only thing that has been done is replacing 2 parts and the problem is still there. I am scared to drive in heavy traffic where it the jerking more.

Dart Limited 1.4L Turbo

  • Automatic transmission
  • 12,100 miles

So the car was very jerky with the transmission ever since we bought it. We took it in a few times and was told by the dealerhsip that it was normal shifting. Very violent jerking when coming to a stop. When the wife pulled in the driveway there was a ton of smoke and a terrible burning smell coming from the car. When I test drove it there was very loud clunking. Had to have it towed 23.7 miles to Towbin Dodge, the tow was free!

Now to see how my $150 deductible will do. I will update on what the problem is, can't wait. Oh, and the turbo has soooo much lag it's not even funny. If I was ever in a sticky situation I feel if I hit the gas I would NOT get out of the way. Definitely an unsafe car, performance wise.
