CarComplaints.com Notes: The first year of the new Dodge Dart had a rough start, with owners reporting a disproportionate number of engine and transmission problems.

For transmission, the main complaints are transmission failure & rough shifting. So far, average mileage for transmission failure is 25,000 miles. Not good.

For engine problems, it usually starts with the engine light coming on for any number of reasons: bad sensors, ignition coil replacement, bad wiring, faulty gas cap ... dealers are replacing various components with varying degrees of success, or telling owners they can't duplicate the issue.

Took car to dealer to rotate tires with an oil change and they said they cannot do it because the tires are dry rotting and there are bubbles in the side walls of at least one of the tires. The DOT number is K2X5 YAL8 4012. Called KUMHO USA and they said sorry but we must have damaged them and they are not part of the recall and that those tires were never put on dealer cars but sold to Discount Tire only. They wanted to replace the tires with the same brand and said they were the best and the recommended tire for the car. Since I am retired we have not yet been able to replace them.

Update from Nov 7, 2016: Replaced the tires with Cooper tires not at the dealer. He said the problem was weak sidewalls and that caused even a smaller bump or pothole to cause a problem. He also mentioned that there appeared to be a small crack in one of the rims. We had previously asked the dealer to check a slow leak in the left rear tire and they said there was no problem. That is the rim with the problem. He also mentioned that the slow could be caused bu the bad tires but to take care and replace the rim if the slow continues to be a problem. The dealer also had stated we should make sure the tires were rotated, because it looked like the had never been rotated. Now this was absurd because we bought an oil change package for three or four oil changes at the dealer that included tire rotation. So then he says well maybe it just looks that way because of damaged tires. So now 700.00 later we have nothing to do but laugh it off and consider that the dealer never rotated the tires or they were simply bad to begin with and be sure to go elsewhere. LOL

Low profile tires combined with the tight suspension don't work on this vehicle. You'd better have perfect roads if you drive this car. I've replaced five tires in two years. The smallest pothole puts a bubble in the sidewall.

Traveling to Virginia from Florida. Half way through trip right rear tire pressure warning came on. AAA was called thinking it was a nail. AAA tech found no nail or other object to cause the leak. Suggested to get it to a dealer. Had to stop 4 times to top off with air. Took tire to Chrysler dealer in Virginia for inspection. They found air seeping from sidewall. Had to purchase new Kuhmo tire because Chrysler said tires were not covered under warranty. Tire was sent back to Kuhmo for factory defect evaluation. If found to be defected then I will be reimburse less mileage already on tire. Still have not heard back from them. !

This is tire replacement number 6 and 7! Bubbles keep appearing out of nowhere on the sides of the tires and we are told it isn't covered and that we are at fault for hitting curbs and potholes! Not true but that is the company line. This has become an expensive "hobby" replacing tires! The first ones were at around 12,000 miles. Now its tires and the battery and modules!

Bought a used tire after having 2 new tires develop bubbles (front passenger side). Now, no bubble, but the tire keeps losing air. Beginning to wonder if something is wrong with that front axle (or whatever the tire goes on) instead of the tires..... Only that right front tire has developed bubbles, treads worn down and loses air!!!

Went into the tire shop for a flat - turns out it was a screw in the tire. While there, they found a bubble in a different tire. Assuming these things would be covered under a "bumper to bumper" warranty, I had them put the doughnut on and went to the dealership.

Of course the tire was not covered. My only recourse is to call the manufacturer (Kumho) which I have yet to do.

As I am reading about others experiences on the road this tire is highly dangerous. I will be replacing or watching VERY closely the other 3 on my vehicle.

Chrysler should do a recall on these tires. They are dangerous!

Have had the car for less than a year and have had problems with 3 of my tires. First my front passenger tire blew out while driving around 35 mph. The sidewall blew out. Had it replaced because figured it was just a normal blow out. Then a couple months later while cleaning my car I noticed a bulge on the sidewall of another tire. I examined my other tires and also found a small bulge starting on a third tire.

Contacted the service dept where I purchased the car and was told it was caused by hitting pot holes. This service person never looked at the tires to see the damage and told me it was common. It is considered road hazard and not covered under the warranty. I do not remember hitting any large pot holes and small bumps should not blow 3 tires that easy, I say there is a defect with the tires. I will not buy another Dodge product if this problem is not resolver to my satisfaction. I have seen several other people write reviews about bulges in their sidewalls.

This is the first of 3 complaints I will be writing about. Kuhmo tires are complete junk and Chrysler and Kuhmo refuse to do anything about this well known issue. My wife and I plan to seek legal council against Kuhmo and Chrysler as we have had to replace all four tires within 5000 miles. One was a blowout at 60 mph and the other two incidents were bulging sidewalls. This problem is a HUGE SAFETY CONCERN!!! I refuse to let my wife drive the car anymore as I am scared she will lose control when a tire blows out

See previous two complaints. We were told by Chrysler that there is no warranty on the tires that have blown (3 total) and we would have to purchase our own tires. So we have purchased 4 new Michelin pilot tires at a whopping $700 out the door. Legal advice is in the works for tomorrow. I will not settle on this issue. Kuhmo and Chrysler will pay for this negligence.

When I first bought the car the tire gauge kept going off so the dealership filled the tires and turned the alarm off unless it is a dramatic difference. I was driving down the street when the gauge went down to 10 and the tire went flat. When I told the dealership they took the tire to "Continental" said they would look into it and kept me driving on the donut for two weeks. I finally couldn't take it anymore because winter was coming and it was unsafe to drive 30 miles to work on a donut so I purchased my own tire. They did put it on for free, but I have yet to hear about them covering the cost of the faulty tire. I do remind them every time I go in, which unfortunately has been several time since I bought it 5 months ago.
