While driving consumer heard a loud knocking noise coming from the front ball joints. Dealership mechanic tried to repair the vehicle, but was unable to resolve the problem.
I am having to replace both sets of ball joints at 45,000 mi on my 1999 Dodge Durango. I have replaced rear tie rods, front U joints, and transfer case during the past six months. None of this has been covered by warranty.
Each year I have had this vehicle I have had to replace the ball joints and the front tires as well as have the front suspension redone. The vehicle is not safe to drive and this is getting expensive. Dodge will not fix the problem.
1999 Dodge Durango with 52,000 miles passed inspection in April 2003. On Dec 23,2003, it was discovered that the vehicle needs 4 new ball joints. Ball joints wore out in a 7,000 mile span. I find it difficult to believe that all 4 ball joints went bad at once. I believe that this relates to a product deficiency in manufacture.

Upper and lower ball joints failed at 59,000 miles. The lower ball joints on the both right and left sides were badly worn to the point where an object could have caused a great amount of damage. The parts were replaced. There were no grease fittings in any of the factory ball joint.
We own a 1999 Dodge Durango.... wheel, brake rotor and steering knuckle separated from the vehicle.... ball joint separation seems to have been the problem... apparently, this is a continuing issue with these vehicles.
After seeing a report on the television about defective upper ball joints, I became concerned. I have noticed a squeaking noise every time I go over bumps and the noise comes from underneath the front of the car. I believe there may be a seious problem with my Durango and called my mechanic to make an appointment. I am putting this in writing to establish a record if there is a problem. I will keep you informed.
Vehicle was taken for a routine general maintenance, and the mechanic noticed that all four ball joints felled worn out prematurely. Also consumer had problems with water pump and the serpentine belt.
Vehicle pulling to the right took to shop and they told me the vehicle is unsafe to be on the road and that the ball joints could fail at any time. This is the only vehicle I have so I have to drive it daily.
After only 60,000 miles I have had to replace all 4 ball joints and have replaced my rotors twice. I have complained to my dealer about my brakes not long after I purchased my vehicle and have had trouble with them ever since.
Consumer took vehicle to dealer for routine maintenance, and mechanic noticed that both upper and lower ball joints needed to be replaced due to corrosion.
I purchased a brand new 1999 Dodge Durango and have faithfully maintained the vehicle with oil changes, tune-ups, etc. I recently brought my Durango into the local Dodge dealership where I purchased the car, due to the engine light coming on for no apparent reason. I was informed that my front end ball joints needed to be replaced along with the arm control, and the sensor needed to be replaced. The total costs of repair, including new tires, etc. Totaled over $2000. No one informed me of a potential recall of the ball joints, until I picked my car up, and paid the bill. Now I find out that your Agency has been investigating this problem for quite some time and nothing has been done to date. I have researched this issue on the internet and have found numerous instances of failure of the ball joints at extreme cost to car owners. My vehicle has only about 48,000 miles on it. This is ridiculous. It is my hope that your Agency will take action soon, as this is a serious problem, and could lead to fatalities if not addressed.
I have a 1999 Dodge Durango. I learned today that both top and bottom, front ball joints need to be replaced immediately. I understand that premature wearing out of these is not uncommon. I would like the manufacturer to replace these. The dealership was considerate, but not helpful. I would like to have these vehicles recalled as I understand this is not an uncommon problem, but could be very unsafe. Anything you can do to expedite a recall would be appreciated.
