Both the upper and lower ball joints had to be replaced at 39,327 miles. At first I thought it was just a coincidence, however I now realize that this is a ongoing problems with the vehicle. The work was done while I was traveling on vacation at a Goodyear dealer
I have a 1999 Dodge Durango. We recently had the upper and lower balljoints replaced has long as the tierod ends. I foind this unexpectable with a vehical with only 58,000 miles! I had them replaced under extented warnty free of charge except for a $50 detuctable. But I have since found out that these type of balljoints usally go out every 20,000 or so and some people on the club I belong to have had them replaced 3 or more times in 60,000!! this is crazy! I would like a recalle done and for Dodge come out with a way better desing for these balljoints so they don't have to get replaced every 20,000. Because I'm soon to be out of my warnty and if these balljoints are the same ones that were in there last time I will have to replace them again soon under my cost. And with the recall and better desing of the balljoints I won't have to worry about this. So Dodge needs to desing a balljoint that can last 100,000 miles or more.
After about 54,000 miles I was informed by three different places that my ball joints were extremely bad. From what I understand is that these ball joints should not be wearing out this soon. So, ended up paying $1300 and some change to get this fixed. This occured about three months ago. I was watching the news and saw that their is going to be an investigation into this problem and I wanted to tell you that it has happened to me.
I was told recently from Dodge dealer that I needed right and left upper control arms and had worn out ball joints that would costs roughly $1500 to fix.I heard on news today that there was an investigation or recall.im sure there or others with this same problem shelling out hard earned cash to have this fixed, because the mechanic I talked with said that this was a problem that they were having with that model;acted as if it was normal.I have never been off-road with this vehicle and have never had this problem with a car so new.I have been saving money to get this fixed, but noone from Dodge told me that I was in danger if I continued to drive it like that, they did say it would wear my tires out and I would notice it more the longer I drive it like that.im glad someone is looking out for the consumers!!

Lower ball joints on 1999 Dodge Durango SUV replaced by dealer under warranty at about 26000 miles. Ball joints need to be replaced again at 54,000 miles. I believe the new and replacement equipment is defective as the vehicle is used under normal everyday usage.
The consumer took the vehicle for an alignment, and the technician stated the lower and upper ball joints needed to be replaced. This would cost about 1,300. While traveling 65 mph, the front left tire completely came apart. Consumer had to purchase 2 sets of tires due to the front suspension wearing the tires. Consumer would like to be reimbursed for the total of 4 tires purchased.
Consumer took the vehicle into the dealer for a front end problem. The dealer stated the lower ball and the upper ball joints needed to be replaced. The ABS light illuminated and also the engine seemed to bog down, the dealer found excessive oil in the intake manifold.
1999 Dodge Durango. Just replaced ball joints and inner tie rod ends due to excessive wear in only 65000 miles. A potentially dangerous situation for not only myself but my newborn and 3 year old in the car with me. Apparently there is a tsb out on this but Chrysler needs to concider a recall.
Upper left & lower right ball joint failed to pass pa inspect at 15,000 miles (1st year of ownership, purchased vehicle new). The upper left ball joint was very close to failure at time of inspection. At 32,000 the lower left & upper right ball joints where replaced due to failing inspection. Currently a 62,000 on vehicle and seeing excessive wear on first replacement interval.
On December 27, 2002 I brought my Dodge Durango to just cruisin, Inc to have my annual state inspection performed. I was notified that I failed inspection due to out of specification conditions on my front suspension. The vehicle had 62,810 miles at the time of this inspection. They notified me that they believed this to be a premature wearing of the parts. On 1/17/03, the ordered parts had been received, and I had them replaced. Just cruisin removed and replaced both lower ball joints, the left upper ball joint, and both inner tie rod ends. I did not notify Chrysler of this problem yet. Today, I read an article regarding 4 accidents and 81 complaints of premature wear on the front suspension of Dodge Durangos and decided to file this complaint. I also intend to contact Chrysler regarding recoupment of my expenses. Because the parts were replaced w/ factory parts, I probably will still need to replace w/ the redesigned parts when they come out.
My 99 Dodge Durango had both lower ball joints and an inner tie rod(driver side) replaced with the truck having only because 20,000 miles on it this problem made this vehicle very dangerous to drive because you were not able to steer it properly it was always pulling.
Upon getting vehicle inspected it failed due to worn ball joints. Both of the lower ball joints and upper drivers side ball joint must be replaced. After speaking with several mechanics and looking thru your complaints it is obvious that this is a common occurance with this vehicle. Please help.
1999 Durango obviously has ball joint problems what is Dodge going to do about it? the dealer is charging a fortune to fix a faulty part. Dose someone have to die before Dodge owns up to its mistake. Lower ball joints on the Durango SUV vehicles are prone to rapid wear out and looseness. The problem is frequently encountered even if the vehicle is never driven off-road. The O.E. lower ball joints are of a compression loaded, metal-to-metal bearing design. The design has a tendency to allow bearing looseness and load change on the bearing as the suspension moves through its full range of travel. This may easily lead to rapid wear out.
