CarComplaints.com Notes: The third generation Durango is plagued by a defective TIPM, particularily in the 2011 and 2012 model years.
TIPM, which stands for Totally Integrated Power Modules, is responsible for controlling and distributing power to all the vehicle’s electrical functions. So when your TIPM goes haywire, bad things start happening. Things like your water pump can stop working, your engine can stall out and your airbags can randomly deploy.
Driving down the highway at 65mph and the dash lights up and starts dinging to slow down under 20 mph to engage 4 low. I pulled over, checked to make sure nothing was near/touching the selector knob ( there was nothing) then I turned the selector to 4 low and allowed it to engage then I turned it back and allowed it to disengage. once I heard it disengage and the lights went off I pulled back onto the highway, it was fine for approx. six more miles then it began again. The problem continued the next time it was driven then it spontaneously stopped.
