CarComplaints.com Notes: When the 3rd-generation Durango was introduced in 2011 owners almost immediately started having a wide range of issues -- from water pump failure to stalling engines. Turns out the TIPM is to blame and those problems carried into the 2012 model year.

TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Modules) is responsible for controlling and distributing power to all the vehicle’s electrical functions. So when the TIPM starts acting up, so do all sorts of problems in the vehicle.

The problems have been so bad -- and replacement parts became so hard to find -- that a class-action lawsuit was filed against Chrysler focusing on the 2011-2012 Durango. The lawsuit accuses the automaker of ignorning the problem until it spiraled out of control.

I don't understand why a safety feature such as an airbag is not working, is faulty or damaged, unsafe, and is not covered by the manufacturer or dealer - and I have to pay for this repair. I thought this was a known maintenance part.

This is the second time in the five years that I have owned my vehicle that the air bag light has come on. The first time, it was still under warranty so the issue was fixed along with some other recall work being done at the same time. Now, it has come on again and I've been told it is not covered under the warranty. If the issue is with the TIPM, this was not replaced during the first repair.

Obviously, the first time the dealership just put a band-aid on it to get me out the door because I'm pretty certain they didn't have the required part on hand. With this being a known, and ongoing issue, FCA needs to issue a recall on the item. Wonder if they are waiting for the airbag to deploy on its own causing a wreck or injury before they will think about doing something.

I don't have the money for the part or labor. On a side note....I do need to schedule the recall work to replace the alternator and I think its the brake booster shield. I had my alternator replaced July 2017 when it went out on me on my way home one evening. No recall was listed at that time for the alternator so I had to get it fixed. Five weeks later, I got the recall notice for the alternator and the letter was dated for approximately five weeks BEFORE mine went out on me. I was reimbursed but it nearly took an act of congress to get my money. Now I'm being told that the alternator I had installed may still go out on me and that I should have it replaced thru the recall.

Why is Dodge not sending out a recall! They need to fix their recalls instead of selling more cars with same sh*t on them.

The air bag light came on 18 July 2016 and the audible alarm would ding intermittently. The light remained on for approximately three weeks along with the audible noise then all of sudden went off. I did not take it for repair do to the light and noise stopping on it's own. I would like to know if there have been any recall notices issued or any other safety information that dodge has issued. This is the only transportation that my family and I have so I would like to know if these air bags are safe and will they protect me and my family in the event of an accident. I have had a few other problems with my Dodge Durango that have left me displeased. I regret making this purchase now. I will seriously rethink buying Dodge again. I will go back to Toyota when I buy again my toyota had over 186,000 miles and never had one major problem. It just goes to show you that vehicles that look good do not always deliver on quality.

After the air bag light kept coming on and going off i took the durango back to the dealer. I was told that it is a sensor and if it is not functioning the passenger air bag may not deploy in an accident. They also said they would charge (rape me) $700 for this sensor as it is not covered under my extended warranty. This truck is bearly 3 years old and the sensor has gone and they wont honor it under the warranty very poor customer satifaction in my opinion. I am paying to have it fixed but i am hoping this too will eventually be a recall like the 7 other recalls on this POS. I have had dodge products (pickups and Suv's) for years and this 2012 is by far the worst! Totally unhappy with this SUV. Very disappointed.

Air bag light comes on. I Looked in manual it says see dealer. I took it to dealer and the light went away. Was told to leave the vehicle for evaluation, it could take a day or so and it may not be covered under warranty. The problem they suggested may be loose wiring under the seating. I decided to leave since the light went away. Light stayed off for a few days and then reappeared.

I drove for a few days with the light on, scheduled an appointment for service a 2nd time and shortly after scheduling the appointment the damn light went off again. I am not sure why it keeps going on and off, but this time I am making sure to address this issue. I suspect the issues is due to the seat movements, such as driver adjustments and passenger adjustments. The stupid air bag wiring should not be so fragile, this is an important part of safety in the vehicle.

I will update notes once solution to problem is found, and keep my fingers crossed that I am not in a accident with out working air bags.
