With 39k highway km on the van the rear brakes are completely worn out. Seven days earlier a small scrapping sound was heard from the rear brakes. Took vehicle to dealership and the caliper is destroyed. Did the brake wear damage the caliper or did the caliper failure damage the brakes? Dealership wants $500 for the brakes and $400 to replace caliper. None of this is covered by warranty, I cannot believe that the Dodge Caravan has brake failure with under 40k km on it before my Ford van has with over 65k km. Both vehicles are driven in similar conditions, by the same driver.

We bought this 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan new off the lot March 2012. Started having problems with squeaking brakes and grinding sounds while braking January 2013, front brakes and rotors needed replacement, done under warranty, no problem. We questioned at the time how brakes could wear out so fast, but we figured they were crappy factory parts, and it was covered under warranty, so on we go..... three months after, still hearing squeaking and grinding sounds with braking intermittently, brought to dealer, they checked, pads still good, but probably "just picking up road dust and grime" given as explanation.

Brought back again August 2013 to check brakes because the sounds were happening again, told the same story, dirt dust, blah, blah, blah, charged to inspect brakes. So i ignored the sounds....fast forward to June 2014 rear brakes making squeaking noise on highway, Rear brake pads and rotors needed replacement. We figure we'll will get it done at our mechanic and put on premium ceramic brakes and rotors.

September 2014, front brakes need replacement, ceramic pads and rotors used again.

January 2014, rear brakes making cricket noise while on highway, brought to dealer and were told that rear brakes and rotors need replacing again. We were told that the pads are getting jammed in the adapters due to lack of maintenance, causing the pads to get stuck against the rotors and overheating. Advised that brakes need servicing and "clean up" every 20K. Now, it does not say this in the manual and we brought our vehicle in for oil changes every 5K, not to mention the amount of times we complained about noise from the brakes and were never told about any need to service the brakes every 20k.

We have owned minivans and other cars in the past and have never even heard of this!!!! I am very disappointed with Chrysler for their lack of attention to this matter. Should be a recall!!!!!! Now should we have to budget for $1000 brake jobs every year? front and back? this is ludicrous, on a brand new vehicle!

Phone Chrysler customer care complaining about brake premature wear out, manager will look into it. Van has been parked for 7 days, unsafe to drive, brake pads completely worn out and seized due to excessive rust of rotor and pads, mileage only 16700 KM. Try to call few times a day, no one returns my call, left messages frequently, no one returns my calls, ignorant. All I ask for is an answer whether they will cover the cost or not simply parts are garbage just like their customer care

repair, cost 550.00 $ pus tax.

Buy Japanese for peace of mind.

I bought this vehicle for my wife as a gift. It had 17K miles when I purchased, and the brakes had been done once already. This was a bit of a red flag, but I thought since the vehicle was used as a rental, it had sustained some unusually hard abuse. Boy was I wrong! I drove it to 34K miles, when, SURPRISE! It needed brakes again. Then again at 50K, 60K, and 75K. The van currently has 91K miles, and I'm waiting for the dreaded squeal and grind associated with this POS of a car! I'm still considering trading the vehicle. But with the miles and payoff amount, it would obviously not be cheap. I don't know, perhaps a Mazda CX9 is in my future.

I took my 2012 Grand Caravan in to the deal ship with just over 35k on it. The vehicle started squeaking from the back left tire while driving. I looked and did not suspect brakes due to only having 35k on it. How ever I did go ahead and try to diagnose the problem further by applying the brakes to see if the sound got louder or would stop. It did not. I also noticed that when I went over speed bumps the pitch of the sound changed.

I took the vehicle to the dealership and they told me the breaks need replaced and there were not any other issues. I believe that Chrysler needs to recall the breaks.

Glad I found this site! Got my van in March 2013 (used). Had about 43000km on it. Not even a month after owning it I kept smelling something burning and squealing. Figured out it was the back wheels. It got so hot that the rubber of my tire was melted and had to get new tires!

Took it in to the dealership where I bought it. They told me I had to go to the Dodge Dealership. Took it there and paid for them to tell me what the hell was going on. They gave me a quote of over $500 to replace rear break pads, disks and the arm that moves the pad. Not covered under warranty. I bought my own parts and my husband did the work himself for about $300 in parts. Now a little over a year later it's happening AGAIN and Dodge says it's probably because of my driving! I've never had a ticket or accident so YES, it must be me! Maybe keeping my left foot on the brake while I'm pressing the gas with my right. Are you kidding me? Wtf?! I haven't found a recall for this problem.

What's it gonna take for Dodge to fix it as it's obviously their defect. Maybe after my tire explodes and I crash with my kids in the car, they will do something about it! If I have to change my rear breaks and discs and whatever else EVERY year, that's a sh*t load of money!

DO NOT BUY THIS SH*T - We bought this car (Dodged Caravan) brand new in Aug 2012 and as a family car. The car is only driven when we go on a family picnic or for large shopping. Before the first service (less than 5000 KM), the car started to give occasional squeaking sound from the back wheels and wheels would sometimes get very hot. Once, we had to cut our trip short because of wheels overheating.

We took the car for the dealer for service and asked them to check the brake. The dealer reply was that brake needed a service and there is nothing to worry about. However, the occasional squeaking sound continued until the car was due for the second service (9000 KM). Still, the dealer reply was nothing to worry about. This continued until before the time for the third service (15000 KM), when we heard a strong grinding sound every time the brake paddle is pressed, and the sound would stay for a short while after the brake is released.

We rushed the car to the dealer again. This time the dealer mechanic found that the back brake pads are completely worn-out out and there is sign of damage on the rotors as well. The car needed replacement of Brake pads and Rotors and the dealer refused to fix it under warranty as the car was over one year old.

I believe this is either factory or design defect and should have been repaired under warranty. I have owned many cars in the past and never seen brake pads and routers need replacement at 15000km interval. I have driven my other car (German made) for 60000 km so far and the brake pad still has more than 30% remaining.

I am very disappointed. Some of my friends advised me not to buy this car and now I deeply regret my decision to help our local economy by buying this car. I now see that many others have the similar issue, and unless Dodge (Chrysler) admit and address these reliability issues (and at least fix the defect under warranty), this is going to badly affect their reputation. I will never buy Chrysler products again.
