With less than 32,000km on my 2009 Dodge Journey the front and back brake pad and rotors had to be replaced at a cost of about $750 US. I called Chrysler Canada to complain but they said it was past the 1 year 12,000km warranty and that I would have to pay if I wanted them fixed.

I checked on the internet and found a lot of complaints about premature brake wearing on this make and year of vehicle. I called Chrysler Canada back and argued with them so they finally told me to send them a copy of the repair invoice and they would consider paying for the brake job. They sent me a cheque for just over $500 Canadian. I guess that is better than nothing.

We have owned a number of new vehicles over the years. We bought the 2009 Dodge Journey new and now, with less than 60,000 km on it, we are having to replace the front brakes! I have heard from another Journey owner that they have had to replace their front brakes for the third time already -- and they have had theirs for about a year longer than us. This is very annoying -- and if Dodge doesn't do something to fix it we won't be buying a Dodge again. Where did their brakes get made -- some sweat shop in a third world country with no quality control? It makes me want to scream!!

i ahd to stop because the breaks where making noise the front brake pads had the rosin wasn't cure properly and the middle of the pad came apart and ruined the rotors

i took the pads to the dealer and said what could they do and i was told that its only covered for 12 months and 16000 miles.

so i called the company and they told me to send them the bill and they would reimburse me well its been a year now and nothing from them i talk to a case manager and they said they haven't received anything from me and they closed the case

At 22,000 miles we were told that front brakes "would have to be replaced sometime in the next 3 - 4,000 miles". I thought that was odd but yesterday, returning home from an event, the brakes started squeaking like crazy! Brakes were very "mushy". Pulled into an auto repair shop where they told me I was in danger of COMPLETELY LOOSING the brakes and would not be able to stop. I paid $300 out of pocket to insure we could get home and I am p.o'd!! They also told me my rear brakes are unbalanced. Now I read that many others have had this same problem and Dodge knows about it. I've driven Dodge vehicles for years but this may be the last one ever

At 31000 miles, we had to have all of our brake pads and rotors replaced. The back pads where completely gone with only half that much in the front. The rotors where not even turnable. We spent our own money to purchase quality ceramic brakes pads and new rotors at $450 and had them put on only to have the chassis shaking again and the steering column shaking back and forth when you press the brake 11,000 miles later. Now at 44,ooo miles we are looking to do it again. I also believe that there is something faulty with the calibers as they do not fully release, obviously from the squeal" after I let up on the brakes. The attached WEBLINK indicates that there is a class action lawsuit in New Jersey regarding this very problem. Read the comments from others and you will see this is a huge and very neglected issue by Chrysler. Please send this link on whenever you can and maybe we can get Chrysler to do what is right. I purchased my Journey in May of 2009, in March of 2010 I started having problems with my brakes, when I first called they guy at service told me, best if I take it to a brake place and have them look at them (because it would be faster). I took it in and the guy at the brake place tells me that the brakes are really bad and it has gone down and messed up the calipers and it was going to be about $800 to fix! I was mad, to say the least, the car was fairly new and already that much of an expense. There was no way I was going to do that so I called Dodge and they towed my truck to dealer where they proceeded to tell me that they would be able to fix it and would give me 25% discount off the work!!! What!! I called dodge corporate and after 4 days fo haggling and complaints they finally fix it for free. My husband had to take the bus to work for 4 days and because I am a teacher I was off and I was not able to do anything with no vehicle!!!! Then not 8 months later, in November, my husband and I drove to Dallas and we heard these horrible noises coming out of the car. We thought that it was the brakes again and could not believe it!! I took the car in on Thanksgiving break Monday. I got there at around 8:05am and waited for about 3 1/2 hours when they came and told me that they could not find anything wrong with the car and it wasn't making any noise. Everything was fine. I said fine got in my car and started to drive off. I got about 1 block down and heard the noised again! These ,horrible noises!!!. So I turned right around and got the service manager to get in the car, I dove down a block and it started to grind and make the noises! He said "Oh, i hear it now!" Helloooo, ya! so he sent it back and they proceeded to look at it again. After about 3 more hours the service guy comes out and says that they didn't find what was making the noise so that they are going to change the front brake pads again since it is under warranty because of the problem I had in March!!! So, again I wait, and wait! It is now 4:45pm, I had been there for over 8 hours!!!! The service guy came back and told me, they felt dumb, but finally found the problem, it was the back brakes now and it was metal on metal and that was why all the noise. DUH!!!! He then tells me that it was going to be close to $300 to fix. I was like, no way, after all this time, I told them to put everything back on and I would deal with it the next day. On way home I called dodge again and made another complaint! They called me the next day to say they were sorry and I complaint enough that they decided to change all brakes for $100!!!! I agreed because I was tired of complaining and not having a vehicle on my vacations. Now, March, 4 months later and I am beginning to hear more squeaks and noises. I got my husband to take it in and of course they hear and see nothing wrong with it!!! WHAT! They said it was some dust and dirt in the brakes and that we just needed to clean it out! What?! My husband left and he said he didn't get far and again heard the noises. I cannot believe that the craftmanship of these brakes are so bad and Dodge does nothing to take care of it! What has to happen? Do people have to die in order for them to take this seriously!!! I want so badly to trade it in for something else but because the car is so bad and it depreciated so much in a short time, we are severely upside down, our only option is to trade for another dodge, which is completely out of the question!!!

There is more than just A problem with this vehicle!! There are too many!! All of these had happened within owning this car in 16 months! Brakes went out, steering column had to be replaced, airbag had to get fixed, may not deploy if in accident!! Thats great safety!! Visor door broke, jerking happens while shifting from reverse to forward, engine whines or clicks sounding like something flapping, front passenger fog light went out, rear passenger tail light went out, alert lights kept dinging...whether it was the airbag light, low tire light and the anti-skidding light, touch screen on media froze up multiple times!!, wears out tires really fast!! Already due for new tires, and again i haven't had this vehicle for 2 years!! I bought it brand new at the end of July!!

DODGE...American Made SHOULD be quality!! Instead its cheaply made, overly priced and its all about how much money they can make!!

I purchased the new Journey in June 2009 and had to replace all the pads and rotors right before the warranty expired. The dealer replaced the front pads and rotors the first day and on the way home it was still rumbling and vibrating so I took it back the next day so they could correct it, they wanted to charge me because it was no longer under warranty, but I had to remind them that I had brought it in the day before when it was still under warranty, and demanded that the tech DRIVE the car so they would know what was wrong with it. They had to replace the back pads and rotors.

Had the same problem with the brakes; it felt like the wheel was going to fall off when I hit 65 on the interstate. The dealer replaced the pads and rotors. The car started to vibrate on the interstate when I hit 65 mph and I took it back to the dealer. They did an alignment and said it would stop. I was angry about having to do another repair in such a short time, so I wrote a very long nasty email to Chrysler and included al the other things that had been wrong with the car. They had a flunky call me and after going round and round about it, they sent me a check for the repair. Now, 4 months later, it has started to do it again. Crap! Now I am really angry and will have to take it to Dodge again.

Squeeky brakes before we had the car a full year. Replaced the front brake pads and they turned the rear rotors. Now it's almost two years since we've had the car and the rear brakes are really squeaking. It's a shame because the Journey is a great car.

We had to call Chrysler to get them to pay for the brakes the first time. I don't think we should have to pay now either.

Update from May 19, 2011: We've had our Journey 2 years now and have replaced front brakes twice and rear brakes and rotors once. Now there is a clicking sound when the brake is pushed to slow down. All the way compressed and the sound is gone. It's a loud clicking sound and it's pretty embarrassing with a two year old car.

bought this in nov 2009, by Jan 2010 and only putting 3000mi on it, front brakes and rotors shot/dealer split cost because it was purchased as a demo with 6000mi already on it. (some kind of inspection should have been done before selling it to me.)---- now at 12000.00 mi rear brakes went------I was never told anything about the rotors being of need to be resurfaced. Pep Bpys just installed rear brakes/ now at 21000.00 i need rear rotors----what a joke. to top it all off, my inspection is due in 03/10 and UNFORTUNATELY I CAN ONLY TAKE MY CAR TO GARY BARBERA'S RIP OFF SERVICE CENTER. who said must replace the front brakes or it will not pass inspection. I go to get them done, and i havve the report and it says no ft brakes needed.

I bought a 2009 used journey on May 26, 2009 with 21,937 miles. On June 21, 2010 with only 14,842 miles of driving I had to have the brake pads all the way round replaced.

The front brake pads had wore down so bad that they had put massive gashes on the rotors. I had the rotors resurfaced and pads replaced. This is very discouraging. I got this car for my wife after replace a car that was bought and paid for. The previously car brake were replaced only three times during the 7 years we had it. I was really expecting more from the Chrysler/Dodge Corporation due to the fact that they where really trying to make a come back as the top auto makers. This is not the way to keep new customers because this is my first time owning anything built by this corporation. This is part I, stay tune for part II and part III, it is not looking to good at all.

Hello, I purchased this car new , since purchase i have gone through 2 sets of brakes and rotors,and working on a third,my wife drives this car and does not have a lead foot, Chrysler dodge,told me this is normal wear brakes should be changed every 12k miles, b.s., i also had an issue with vibration in the front end at 65mph dealer sold me a road force tire balance and tire rotation,had complaint of when you turn the steering wheel all the way to right or left i had a terrible slapping sound in the engine are warranty replaced a belt tensioner,had complaint of intermittent no start,(not Battery) they told me they updated electronic control software,also had driver window switch not working warranty re calibrated window control.had tapping noise in the engine warranty paid to replace tuning short runner valve actuators.I am barely at 30k miles.Do not buy this hunk of junk i am trying to get rid of mine, it's going to be a money pit once my warranty is up.

How can I be included in this Class Action Lawsuit? I Purchased my car in Feb 2009 was brand new. I have the 6 Cylinder AWD and at about 16,000 miles my front brakes needed replaced . Dodge told me it was the way I drive. Again today at 33000, I was backing up and it sounding like my back wheel was going to fall off. I had a big trip planned and ended up having to rent a car. I have a new car and have to rent a car???? So I stopped at mechanic and made an appointment for tomorrow, not going back to Dodge dealer, so they can tell me it is my fault for the hard California driving. So we will see how much I have to spend out of pocket tomorrow to resolve a faulty brake system. I was a Dodge customer, but not after these problems. You buy a new car to have a worry free five years, plus I was suckered into the extended warranty, but does not cover there bad brakes. Please contact me I will join any lawsuit against Dodge.
