The engine light often comes on without a cause. It is so costly to check without an fix that I am thinking about not having it check anymore. The head gasket is a major problem on these cars. I do not have the money to fix it at this time. I am waiting for a call from Dodge to see if they will help. This should be replaced at their cost. Too many people have had this problem. The rotor and calipers problem was scary. I was applying my brakes when a crunch was heard. It became hard to keep control of the car. The camshaft seal came out of the head. I had to purchase a new one. I find it interesting that a lot of Neon owners are having the same problems. I wish Dodge would pull their share of the cost so trust could be restablished. Thank you for your time, robyn knouff.
I bought the car (1995) used in 1998. A few months later, the master cylinder went out in road construction nearly causing an accident. Had to replace calipers, rotors, brakes and master cylinder. I had a warranty but was told it was not covered. It cost me 1000 dollars. Two months later, I had to replace the brakes again. Had continuous brake noise throughout the next year with a couple more added brake replacements. In Dec. Of 2000, had to replace brake booster. Costing me another 500 dollars in repairs. I am scared to death to drive it. On Jan. 12 of 2001 the ABS light came on and stayed on. I called to see what the worst case scenario would be and I was told 1000 dollars to fix a sensor!!! I want Dodge to pay for the on going brake problem. This is a very serious problem and should be addressed. I have come so close to getting into accidents from the failures of the brake system!! this is a life threatening safety feature that should never had any problems besides the normal wear and tear of the brakes. I am afraid to drive it. Please respond and tell me if there have been any recalls. I was told there was a service bulletin on the brake booster and now I want Dodge to pay for it. Thank you.
Only one side or area. Front right side. Ie one quarter of system, while driving heard dragging. Manufacturer notified and not responsive to issue. Manufacturer guide states only pads are normal replacement parts.
Many persistent problems with car. Especially with head gaskets and brakes. Have heard from many other Neon owners of head gasket problems. Have had breaks replaced at least every year of ownership and sometimes twice in a couple of years. Breaks sqeak and moan regardless.

When applying brakes they would grind. Also, would have to pump brakes. Dealership replaced rotors and brakes pads. But, problem still continued. It has been three weeks. Possible engine failure caused oil to leak. The steering wheel vibrate and vehicle pulls.
The malfunctioning of front brakes caused loss of vehicle control. Mechanic stated that the front rotor was rusted and delaminated. Had the lamination cracked completely, the front wheel would have locked up, causing complete loss of control.
Oil is leaking on exhaust manifold due to blown out engine head gasket. Could catch fire. Also, has had a front brake problem. In addition, engine check light came on/off.
Going 60mph when engine check light came on. Vehicle started shaking. Went to parking lot & lifted hood. Smoke come from cooling bottle. Engine light dimmed. Towed to dealer & was told head gasket blew. Also ABS brakes failed to work when depressed quickly & vehicle skidded forward on dry pavement.
