2000 Dodge Ram truck dashboard is cracking and falling in. Consumer states that dashboard is cracking and falling apart. Consumer is worried that the cracking could cause issues with the air bag system.
I have a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 and the dash is brittle and breaking into about twenty different pieces. I have been advised that these small pieces could maim or kill when the air bag deploys.
First is the dash. I bought the truck in Feb 04 with 74,000 miles on it and shortly after I noticed a crack in the dashboard, since then the dash is falling apart and is more brittle than a sporting clay. If you snap off a piece and look at it you can see that about 1/5th of the way down from the top is brown since it has cooked in the sun. So that proves that Dodge uses very cheap plastic for the dashboards. I looked into replacing it about 6 months ago and the top piece of the dash cost about 200$ and now that I have gotten my tax returns back I was going to get a new one but the price is now 375$. I guess Dodge finally realized the problem with these dashboards and decided to cash in on them. The torque converter went out on the drive home from the dealership also, but 50 bucks from me and 2100$ from the warranty people fixed that. Second is the asd relay which means automatic shutdown relay and it isn't kidding with the name. A couple years ago when I started my truck it would shut off right away and wouldn't run right until I feathered the gas for a little bit, after replacing the throttle body control solenoid, the idle air control motor and mass air flow sensor I did a little more research and found it to be a 10 dollar relay from Napa. The third problem is a whooping noise coming from the engine that I still can't figure out what it is. The truck makes the noise when its sitting still so I know its nothing in the suspension, although its louder when idling over small bumps. The fourth was the speed sensor in the rear differential, ABS and brake light came on but didn't affect performance at all, replaced the sensor and didn't have any more trouble from it. Fifth problem is the back window leaks but I'm going to fix that with a generous blob of welder glue inside when I finally get around to pulling the headliner down.

There are multiple cracks of various sizes on the dash of my 2000 Dodge Ram. I am concerned that the dash is going to start collapsing causing damage to wiring in under the dash, however, more importantly it poses a risk of passenger airbag failure due to possible puncture. When not being driven the dash has always been protected and is not the result of any accident. This needs to be rectified by the manufacturer before someone is seriously injured due to poor quality parts.
2000 Dodge Ram 1500 truck - cracked dashboard. Talked with local car dealer service department and asked if they had any recalls or if they had heard of any other problems with the dashboards. I was told none that they have heard of and that they could do nothing about the problem because it was out of warranty.
The dashboard on my 2000 Dodge pickup truck has cracked and fallen in in several places. I have read articles where people have had electrical problems such as driving at night and the lights go out etc. Read several articles stating that the problem is wide spread and Dodge needs to have a recall. I wanted to write and complain as it appears as though there could possibly be a danger involved with the dash board breaking. Not sure when the majority of the cracks happened so I'm estimating in the fields below.
Dashboard began to fracture about a year ago, 11-06'. it has steadily worsened until driving the other day on interstate the dash made a noise and we seen there was a large hole dropped out of the thing as a sink hole would. I am concerned it could damage or deploy the airbags or other wiring or devices. It is nearly fractured enough in several other places to cause more collapsing of the dash. Nothing yet done to replace or repair.
The entire top dash is cracked and the dash around the gauges is also cracking. It rattles pieces are starting to come loose and expose wiring. It is a safety issue due to sharp edges and flying pieces in the event of an accident, some may be smashed into someone's face by the airbag. This has been getting worse over time.
I have cracked dashboard in my 2000 Dodge 1500 Ram pickup. This could damage the wiring in the vehicle and cause more unnecessary repairs had this not happen. The quality of the plastic is bad. It does not last more than 2 or three years before it starts cracking.
Upper dash panel has cracked severely in several locations, mostly originating from around the defroster duct. I am concerned about this causing a blockage of defrosting air while driving, especially in northern us climates.
There is a large cracks on the passenger side of the dashboard, it has cracked into several small pieces, if the air bag were to deploy these pieces could become deadly, I have turned off the air bag as to keep this from possibly happening, I have taken very good care of this truck,64,000 miles and its a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab. I know this is a problem in this truck.
I have a 2000 Dodge Ram that the dash cracked and is now falling out in huge pieces this started about 4 to 5 years ago. I'm worried that this will affect the air bag on the passenger side of the truck and the wiring under the dash. When I called the Dodge line they said it would have to do a diagnostic test at the dealership we had already talked to a dealership and they said there was no problems with the dashes in the Dodge trucks and it would cost around $800 to replace.
Multiple, large, deep cracks in the dash of my 2000 Dodge Ram. Defective material without any recalls on it from Dodge. Eventual holes will develop, which lead to other problems, and safety concerns.
The dashboard started cracking about 3 months ago and is in very poor condition right now. The headlights also will occasionally turn off when I turn the bright on and I have to flash the bright a couple of times to get them to turn on.
