We bought the truck new it's in excellent condition except the dash, it is falling apart I have never seen a dash that looked this bad. I think it is probably dangerous! it got a small crack about 2 years after we bought it and now its awful and has been for a long time. I started looking for a replacement dash and ran across complaints in several states that had even had it on the news.

The dash of my vehicle began to crack approximately one year ago, first there was a single crack beginning closest to the windshield in front of the passenger seat and crossing the dash ending in the center of the dash. Since then several other cracks have surfaced that are beginning to affect the defrost, heating/ac and may begin to affect the air bog operation and possible the under dash wiring. Multiple other reports identify that the manufacturer refuses to correct the problem.

I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel pickup and the dash is cracked and have a couple of large holes approximately 8 inches wide. I have heard that there are many other 2001 Dodge Ram's that have this same problem. I am concerned about the wiring behind the dash exposed to the elements. I am concerned about component failure and possibly a fire resulting from exposed wiring.

Purchased the truck used, but after reviewing websites and forums realize that this is an issue and I would like to be counted in the number of complaints of cracks across the dash board. Approximately 20 inches long across the top instrument panel side of the dash.

I purchased a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup ext. Cab/short bed. Like most other Dodge Ram owners of that year, my dash is completely falling apart. There are cracks all over it and two large holes have caved in on the dash. I have another hole getting ready to cave in on the passenger side. I have noticed on many websites that this is a known issue with the 1996-2001 Dodge Ram trucks and Dodge will do nothing about it because it isn't a "recall issue".

Major cracks appeared on the passengers side dashboard. There are two significant crack in the dash that extended within one day. Yesterday no crack in dash, today two major ones. Concerned that the damage will not cease and may crack in other areas possibly exposing electrical components or become unsafe for pass agers where there are sharp shards.

My dash is cracking to pieces; falling apart. The inside of the dash is being exposed to the elements and I fear that the sun or the broken pieces of plastic will damage the wiring.

Hello: This complaint deals with the cracking dashboard on the 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 slt. The cracks really started and became noticeable when the truck had 30,000 miles on it. Now there are several large cracks and a large hole in the dash. This truck is not used offroad.... it mostly sits. Right now it only has 42,000 miles on it. I have checked on the internet and found this is not an unusual problem.... many owners have this problem. I have contacted the main Dodge website....twice.... they act like this is no problem and they have not heard of such issues. I checked my local Dodge dealership.... they way they talked.... they were aware of the issue. I know there is not a lot they can do.... the help will have to come from headquarters. To me.... Dodge should take care of this problem. Especially if they get bailout money basically from me and other taxpayers. Thank you for your time and help. God bless.....

I bought my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Nov 2004, everything on my dash was fine. I went on a detachment for two weeks and when I got back I noticed a small crack in the middle of my dash. I went to the Dodge dealer and they said there was nothing that they could do. So I started looking for a new one and no one sold it online except for in the junkyards which most of them were worse then mine. I went on cruise at the end of 2005. My father had my truck while I was gone. When I had returned not only did the crack get bigger but a hole grew right in the middle of my dash. My dash is in two pieces now and is a hazard to my child and myself. I can't turn my airbag on the passenger side in fear that it will kill my passengers if I get into an accident.

The dash board on my truck started to crack and pieces have fallen down into the electrical wiring. This is a dangerous situation since wires could be shorted and in an accident sharp pieces of plastic could fly inside the cabin injuring passengers. Dodge should indicate a work order to replace the damaged dashes.

There was no singular event that caused this failure. The dashboard is cracking and falling apart. New cracks appear in places randomly and problem is getting worse over time. Nothing has been done to correct the failure- Dodge offered to replace the part for $600 plus labor. This is a very dangerous condition. During an accident chunks from the dash can fly out and be propelled by the airbag. Dodge must replace this part for everyone's safety.

I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. The dashboard started to crack a few months ago. I don't drive my truck very often, I only use it for personal use. So therefore it is not abused in anyway. It has only 94,000 miles and was kept under a carport for most of its life. The only reason I am writing this complaint is to hope there will be a recall. I did some web surfing and found that there was countless people with the same problem. Some people said that Dodge responded to there problems with it not being a safety issue. I beg to differ, I read on one account that a woman was driving at night when her dash fell and shorted out the electrical system to her lights. Just the sheer fact of the dash falling while she was driving could have caused a serious accident let alone the lights going out on her at night. I sure hope that Dodge does the right thing and does a recall.

I have a 2001 Dodge 1500 Ram pickup. It is garage kept and has been since 2001. I baby this vehicle. It only has a little over 60,000 miles on it to date. For no reason the dash started to crack, then a couple of days ago, the dash exploded leaving a huge crater in my dash. I was driving down the road when this happened and it scared me to death. I thought someone had hit me. My husband has a 2001 2500 Dodge Ram pickup and the dash has now started cracking in his truck. The local Dodge dealership said they are aware of this happening to the Dodge trucks, but because there is not a recall there is nothing they can do. I feel this should be a recall issue because it is happening to so many of these trucks, and this can be a safety issue because no one knows when this will happen.
