I own two Dodge Ram pickups 2001,1500 and 2003,2500 both have cracked dashes actually the 1500 the dash is falling out possible affecting the air bag system.
The dashboard on our 2001 Dodge Ram pickup cracked only after a year. We took it so the dealership in mcalester, ok (riverside Dodge) and they refused to fix it. They said it was not covered under warranty. Now there is an 8 inch hole in the dashboard and numerous cracks over the entire surface and even on the inside trim work. Since first reporting this, it has come to my attention that there are hundreds if not thousands of vehicles exactly like ours with the same problem. We feel that Dodge/Chrysler needs to recall this and take care of this dangerous problem. We have seen and heard of reports on the internet about electrical problems, etc that worries us too.
I bought my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 brand new. Approximately two years ago, I started noticing hairline cracks on my dashboard. Fast forward to 2008, and now I have a gaping crack on my dashboard with multiple cracks all over my dashboard. I have done research on this problem, and it seems to be a common problem not to mention a safety problem. Luckily I have not had an accident, but I would hate to think what a sharp piece of hard plastic could do in an accident. This is clearly a manufacturer issue. What else can we, the public, do?
The dashboard on my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck has cracked and I believe may be affecting my control panel (odometer and speedometer). I went to drive my truck one afternoon and the whole control panel wasn't working. I also have some kind of fumes coming from my vents whenever I turn on the air conditioning, heat or defrost which may be related to the dashboard also. My defrost doesn't work at all due to the cracks in the dashboard because the air isn't going where it is supposed to go.

2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4. I have several long cracks on dashboard. Also 2 areas maybe 5 inches in diameter have fallen into dash they had to be glued back in place but new cracks appear every week.. truck has 90K but this problem started around 50K. I had pulled super glue in crack to stop them from spreading but no luck there.
Unbelievable problem to have on a truck that has been so pampered. Rarely driven on less than paved roads, maintained religiously, immaculate interior. Imagine my shock to discover several huge cracks in the dash! one starts at the top to the left of the steering wheel and runs all the way to the windshield, and the other intersects across. I have not yet taken it to the dealership for consideration, but after reading these posts I'm not holding out much hope for a reasonable resolution. What a ginormous piece of crap.
The dashboard has fallen apart piece by piece. Wires are now dangerously exposed and the broken pieces could turn into dangerous, sharp flying debris in the event of an accident.
I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 with a badly cracked dashboard. A few holes are in the middle of the dashboard and the cracks splinter all the way down to the passenger airbag. I am afraid for anyone who rides in my vehicle.
The dash in my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 started cracking about 3-4 months after purchase. Right now there is little left of the top of my dash. I have a couple friends that own or did own the same truck and had the same problem, when it started cracking I thought for sure there would be a recall but to my knowledge there wasn't. I've tried writing letters but no response.
Purchased new 2001 Dodge Ram paid cash pmt for it 28,000 also a Chevy truck mind you never no big issues with the Chevy on the other hand the Dodge issue after issue now the serious problem cracked collapsing dashboard I use only meguire products O the Dodge take excellent care of it I am very disappointed that daimler Chrysler is not fixing these problems there is a big history of this issue with the 01 I see they do not back up the name Dodge when I am ready for a new truck again I highly doubt look at another Dodge truck even though they are pretty trucks but like I said I have had a big history of issues on my Ram for it being bought new disappointed Dodge Ram owner and this Ram has been taken very good care of. The consumer also stated the heat stopped working and the engine consumed excessive amounts of oil and there was no warning to indicate there was a problem. Updated IVOQ 03/11/11
I own a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4. I had one crack in my dash one day and then the whole thing was cracked the next. I called Chrysler and they said that it is out of the warranty period. It only has 50,000 miles on it. So far all of my electrical is working, but it has not caved in yet or lost any chucks so wee will see what happens from here.
The entire dashboard cracked in numerous places, and even though the truck has less then 37000 miles on it the dealers are telling me that it can not be repaired without a recall.
1) unknown of what event lead up to this problem 2) the dash board on my 2001 Dodge truck has several cracks that have appeared over the las 6 -10 months. I have researched the internet and have found may entries where other people are having the same problem with their truck. The dealerships are telling people that that the dashboard is not a recall item and that nothing can be done about as far as the dealers stand point. As far as I can tell this problem is isolated to just Dodge products and they need to be forced to make this right.
2001 Dodge Ram dashboard is breaking apart. Consumer is afraid that if pieces keep falling into the dash there could be some serious issues with wiring, wire shorting, fire, and possible air bag deployment when its not needed.
