Approximately two years ago my 2001 Dodge Ram, 1500 sport started to develop cracks in the dash board. It deteriorated rapidly and it now has huge holes and cracks across the entire surface. Dodge has refused to assist in the unusually high cost of replacement. The warranty was expired for less than a year after the cracks began. The date given below is an estimate.

Upon entry into my truck on Sept. 30, 2006 my son said " dad do you know you have a large crack in your dash from passenger side defrost vent to almost the airbag ?" I had just cleaned the interior a few days earlier and the crack was not there then. Since then the cracking is getting worse and I have found this a defect problem that many Dodge Ram owners have. I fear this problem is not just cosmetic but could affect the passenger side air bag's deployment and possibly more. Replacement costs $500-$800 and no warranty.
I have taken my cloth cover off dashboard 1 time a month to clean it since I bought this vechile and there have been no problems. Today I take if off and crack and breakage. I feel there is a safety issue here if an accident should happen pieces of the dashboard will fly throughout the vechile and the cracks are almost to the passenger side airbag. How will this affect the air bag will it work or will it not its not a risk I would like for anyone to have.
Dash of truck has had multiple cracks for the last year; now, large chunks are breaking apart and falling in/out - now dashboard components are exposed to the sun & front portion of dash is loose and ready to break off also. Dealer says lots of trucks have this problem but they're not obligated to do anything about it. They recommend paying to replace w/large labor costs.
Extremely severe damage to dash, the entire structure of the dash in my vehicle is in jeopardy of collapse. I contacted daimler-Chrysler on two occasions to which their reply was that there was nothing they could do to remedy the situation. The damage has continued forward from the top of the dash in over six points and includes the black trim around the dash itself. I have found others with the same situation and feel that a recall is necessary.
