The in-tank, electric fuel pump failed in my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 pick up truck. The connector and wiring on top of the fuel tank was burned as was wiring in the power distribution center under the hood. This is potentially a very dangerous situation. Chrysler is replacing the fuel pump and repairing the wiring. However, they offered no warranty coverage and no coverage of the collateral damage resulting from the pump failure.
While driving 55 mph vehicle stalled. Consumer had vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that fuel pump needed to be replaced.
Engine check light appeared on the dashboard. The dealer's analysis was that the fuel transfer pump malfunctioned which causing the vehicle to shut down and hesitate because the fuel was incorrectly transferring into fuel pump.
The valve body was replaced as a result of the first repair attemp. Second attempt the transmission was overhauled, replaced pump, input shaft & torque converter. Third attempt is currently being made. Same as second to be replaced.
