The dash board on my 2001 Dodge Ram is falling apart. My 1998 Ram did the same thing. The cost of a new dash is around $700 and will do the same thing. I believe it is a safety issue since the dash houses the airbag.
The contact owns a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that he is unaware of how his vehicle's dashboard became cracked. He stated that the dashboard is also collapsing. The current and failure mileages were 74,000.
2001 Dodge Ram that has always been garaged until 2005. In 2005, the dash top began to crack in one area... but over time the cracks have increased and become more numerous and severe. Because the some of the largest breaks are located at the passenger air bag area, I have actually had passengers in my truck ask me to turn off the airbag (since deployment can happen at slow speeds like tapping a bollard while parking, etc.) 12 out of 14 (86%) of people I know with trucks close to my truck's year model have the same extreme cracking, quite a few are even worse than mine...
I have a 2001 Dodge Ram truck where the dashboard is breaking apart. This started within the first two years I had the truck. Loose parts could fly off during driving causing driver to be distracted causing an accident. Loose parts could fall down into dash and cause electrical or mechanical problems.

I own a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup truck and my dash board started cracking and the cracks keeps spreading and getting bigger. This started around 2-3 years ago. I did notify the dealership of where I bought the truck and was told that if I was the originally owner that they could help me. I then contacted the headquarter of Dodge and was told that they could not help me. That I was on my own.
Dash cracks in the dash pad under the window. It started with a crack in the window which had no impact point. Then the dash cracked in the middle, then over the air bag on the passenger side and then over the drivers side 3 total cracks.
Dashboard has 4 cracks in the top of dashboard from windshield toward cab, material used for dashboard is very brittle and could prove to be dangerous in an accident as it is shattering on a regular basis. This not an isolated incident as there seems to be a large number of owners with same problem. The plastic used would act like a shrap nail in an accident. This should be investigated.
2001 Dodge Ram, the dash is cracked and rotten all the way across. This new of a vehicle should not look like trash on the inside, and there is a real safety concern with all the dash components working correctly. There is a serious issue going on here, if every Dodge dash is cracking. Dodge transmission- normal highway use and the transmission is already junk, all other brands are still going fine on their first transmission and theirs are a lot older than mine. Transmission just quit and nearly caused me to crash, this needs to be dealt with in a serious manner.
I drive a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 1/2 ton. I am a victim of the famous "cracked dash" epidemic. Around April of 2005 I began noticing small cracks developing on my dash. Beginning from the windshield and eventually from around the A/C vents. It has since progressed into the entire dash being almost completely broken out. I have resorted to a temporary dash cover to conceal the damage. I have read on the internet about certain safety issues with the cracked dash. If I were to have an accident and my air bags deployed, the cracked dash could cause the airbags to be punctured and possibly limit my safety. This a major concern of mine and I would like it fixed.
There are a lot of reports of this defect for Dodge Ram '94-'01 trucks. Mine is included and the air bag is exposed.....help dash crack due to manufacturing.
While cleaning my vehicles dash, the dash had cracked and I was unaware of it and lacerated my finger. Now the dash has several cracks and holes in it were it is just falling apart.
