Ram 1500 SLT 4.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 184,000 miles

I bought the truck for $3900. It ran like brand new, but went for an etest and failed for a misfiring. So we changed it and got the heads shaved too to Make sure they didn't warp. Get it back, the timing chain on the right side was too short and so we got a new timing chain but now the compression is down and it bent one of my valves and now there talking about putting new piston rings seals

Ram 1500 LT 4.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 74,000 miles

The orange anti-freeze that Dodge put in it from the factory and recommended to keep using turned to concrete in the radiator and caused it to overheat on my home from Indianapolis. I had it fixed and they blew again at 134,000 miles for no apparent reason.

Update from Dec 4, 2012: Now with 140,000 miles on it, the head gaskets have blown again, and to boot, the rear end is grinding and howling. I cant believe that a vehicle that has been driven carefully and serviced regularly can give this much expensive trouble. Both of these problems are common now that I've read up on them.

Ram 1500 SLT 4.7L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 115,000 miles

Bought the vehicle used with 106k miles. Spotless maintenance record.

Check engine light was on and the code suggested misfire cyl #7. Maybe spark plug, cable or transformer - not a big deal.

After many hopeful tries and dollars spent on diagnosing and replacing parts the smell of burnt antifreeze for the first minute after cold start revealed that the head gasket needs changing. More $$$ spent.

Lasted 3 month until the check light and smell came back. More trouble to come after my mechanic opened the hood/valve cover. See other engine complaint about "Inlet Valve Rocker Falling Off".

All repaired now but Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep will never see a dime again from me!
