Truck has 76K miles check engine light came on coded misfire cyl #5 no problem changed plugs. Still on. Changed coil still on. Drove to work next morning running very ruff very poor mileage. Mechanic picked up the truck. Called me back 1hr or so later lifter stuck not opening valve on cyl 5 completely.research online show this to be a very common defect for this yr make N model 5.7hemi. What is worse is that the manufacture has done nothing about it. Some dealers wont even bother to look at the issue. No vehicle should go from simple misfire code to catostrophic failure like that. And no dealer show allow its customers to suffer the losses for there negligence......... if you google Ram misfire this is what you will find, and not one story will it be do to a spark plug or a coil. Catostrophic cam and lifter failure repair cost range from 3800-6000 not including loss of work or time.

First I noticed a tick in the engine when starting it cold. Turned out to be broken exhaust manifold studs and cracked manifolds on both sides. Passenger side was worse. Was replaced with grade 8 bolts and new manifolds and gaskets. Now I have a diagnosed lifter failure at 58,000 miles and it is only getting louder. It honestly sounds like a spun cam seal and flat lifter in my experience. Dodge will not remedy the problem as I bought the vehicle out of powertrain warranty. Many more are having the same exact issue with lifter failure. It is knocking hard. This is the described "hemi" tick. The camshafts and lifters are low grade material in this model. I have reports of diagnosis if needed.

My truck would crank but not start sometimes after being parked for a while. I thought it may have been from the humidity. It will crank and not start a couple of times more often now. When driving on the highway sometimes, it will sputter for a couple of seconds. I thought it might have been from having a little water in the gasoline from the ethanol. I've been using fuel injector cleaner and seafoam every so often since 2014. The truck is 6 years old. I've been reading about how others have been having a problem with the fuel pump relay going bad on the same year model vehicle and other make/models by Dodge.

Driving on interstate today, the 4 wheel drive light beeped once and the engine died. Luckily we coasted to the side, the doors would not lock, windows would not roll down. Started would engage. Sounds like tipm trouble. Spents $200 being towed home 75 miles

The contact owns a 2011 Ram 1500. On several occasions, while driving, the engine stalled. As a result, the vehicle lost all electrical power. Also, the vehicle began to roll while the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle started to function again and the contact was able to gain control of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer (academy Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram at 5080 academy ln, bessemer, al 35022, (205) 545-8052) where it was diagnosed that the tipm malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 99,000.

Air conditioner condenser under dash went out at about 85,000 miles. At 105,000 miles check engine light came on. I took it to 3 different shops and all 3 found number 5 cylinder of my 5.7 cylinder engine was not operating properly. After deeper investigation it turned out to be a worn camshaft lobe. All oil changes were done at proper intervals and used synthetic oils. Mechanic said it was common with the 5.7 engine.

The contact owns a 2011 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced stalling and deceleration while being operated at interstate speeds. Upon inspection, the contact noticed fluid on the engine and smoke coming from the engine compartment. The check engine, coolant, and service four wheel drive warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine overheated. As a result, the engine wiring melted. The root cause was not determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 51,669.

The truck burns through oil at a high rate and after it does their is no low oil light being turned on by the truck. The truck ran hot and made the cam position sensor fail. I am afraid it will burn even more and cause premature engine failure and sensor failure which is not cover by warranties. The last time in a month it burned through 4 quarts, the dealer said if they do not find anything wrong they would charge me a diagnostic fee. I have had many old Dodge trucks and even a 2007 Ram which always had oil between oil changes and that never burned through so much oil. This happens as I drive and never once does it say low oil, the only reason I figured it out is I am mechanically incline and observed the oil pressure drop down to 14ps on the trucks information consol. Also the truck had gone into a mode where the throttle did not respond and the truck would not down shift. All this happens at the same time and if it happens on a highway may cause a crash because the truck does not shift properly along with no oil the engine will fail.

Ram 1500 4WD 8-cyl

  • 69,000 miles
My truck started out with a dead battery which I replaced and it started in 9/16. Around 12/17/16 I was parked in my truck talking to my neighbor when I decided to turnoff truck and get out of truck. I turned the keyfob to off position only to have it stay running, I than turned keyfob back to on position than back off where it shut off. I pulled into driveway same day and than the keyfob stuck in off position with truck still running. My husband go in it and started to fool around with it putting it into neutral than park than reverse and it finally came out. 1/11/ 17 I started truck noticed tipm light on and traction control light on. I pulled out of driveway the tipm light went out but the traction control light stayed on the whole entire time I was driving it. Then I got home and the key literal fell out while driving it and I lost all power. When my husband came to my rescue the truck started just fine and he drove it home only to have turned the keyfob to off position and pull out the keyfob and have the truck still running. He had to pull the 5amp #27 fuse and disconnect the battery in order to turn it off. Brought to dealer only to be told no recall issues, that they think it has something to due with my after market stereo that was put in over 5 years ago. The advisor called me after having to truck for 3 day to tell me tech needs another 4 hours with it and it was going to be $600 ontop of the $150 I already owed. I asked to speak to manager who could not tell me that they ruled anything else out would not even give me a printout of what was done. I asked about the tipm and he looked at me like I was crazy. I will be taking vehicle out with no repairs and told them if I crash and kill someone or myself their heads are going to roll, this is definitely a dangerous situation.

I have a 5.7 hemi. It has a bad ticking sound on both sides and is misfiring on #8 cylinder. I can't figure it out and after researching about it this is an ongoing problem with the 5.7 hemi. I can't find a recall on it and I think something needs to be done about it. I think the Dodge place should be held responsible since it's an ongoing problem with it. This ticking sound happen anytime it's running.

Driving on the freeway during rush hour traffic and my engine died. I could not get out of the traffic lane and my truck came to a complete stop. Engine cranked, but would not start. Someone helped me push my truck out of the traffic lanes (very risky for them and for me as traffic was still moving, swerving and causing a back up.) after about ten-fifteen minutes, the truck started and I drove it home. Turned truck off and on and it seemed ok. Next morning truck would not start, I sprayed starting fluid in air intake and it tries to start, so I am guessing fuel problems. Truck started after much cranking, but don't trust it, not safe to go on freeway and cause another scary situation. Research tells me this is a common problem. I did not suffer any losses, but may have caused other accidents due to the traffic back up I caused.
