My guess would be a combination of neglect and poor up keep of the mechanics of this vehicle. Age, wear and tear and abuse have taken their toll over the years and it's not gonna fix itself! So, that leaves me with a choice of bringing it back to life or pulling the plug on it. Think I'll start by stripping out all that emissions control crap, pull the intake out and replace it with something else. Maybe, a 650 Holley or Carter/w a Weiand riser. Anything besides that Motorcrap carb sittin' on it now! Guess I could cap the egr port, too! I could go ahead and drop a Mallory dist in it, MSD ignition, headers, duals, ehhhhh... what the hell, let's just go ahead and pull them heads, polish and port 'em, throw in some rollers and cam! Might as well get that block dipped, line bored and 40 over, huh? Ha!Ha! Dream on! I think the ol' girl has made her last pass in the fast lane, time to give up the ghost.
