rear window shattered

Was parked in a parking lot at a dog training center. Luckily, I just got my dog out of the Escape SUV (a 2011 Ford Escape Limited Hybrid 4WD) when the rear window just exploded and shattered. No collision, no trauma, it just spontaneously exploded into thousands of little pieces of glass.

I expect better quality from Ford than this! I understand there have been many, many other known instances of Ford Escape rear windows suddenly shattering/exploding without cause or warning. A very dangerous situation!

Ford needs to recall these very dangerous defective rear windows, and pay those who had to replace them their out-of-pocket replacement costs.

rear window shattered rear window shattered

My husband simply closed the trunk as he has a hundred times before and the rear window abruptly shattered. Luckily our two small girls weren't close by at the time. We'd had snow in Portland the day before, but the idea that the window couldn't withstand those temperatures is ridiculous. I'm hoping that Ford is eventually forced to do a recall as this kind of event could cause injuries.

Scared the heck out of me. Sitting there in the vehicle and it smashed.

Update from Apr 14, 2015: well 654.00 later and in debt I fixed it, Seems Fords faulty design is to blame, Sand or dirt collects under the hinges at the top causing the whatever holds the window in to expand. Therefor caused the window to fall and break. Oh I will need a paint job because the glass shattering and window falling took the paint off my door. Of course Ford claims no responsibility. I sure wish something is done and I can get reimbursed what I spent and what I have to spend
