On 05/26/19 My 2016 F-150 Sport 4X4 Ecoboost engine failed. While driving through Montana the Engine started vibrating very badly. The truck has been inspected by Bozeman Ford Service department identifying that the cylinder head is damaged. For two weeks the online customer service manager and Bozeman Ford Service Advisor have not been able to locate a new part for this engine that is less than 3 years old.

Why is there no replacement parts for an engine less then 3 years old?

What is the cause of such an engine failures?

There is a technical bulletin associated with the repairs but the Ford Representatives have not provided that TSB number to me the customer. What is the TSB number associated with a cylinder head failure?

F-150 Lariat 3.5L Ecoboost

  • Automatic transmission

At approximately 12,000 miles 4800 of which was a dealer demo I experienced a lack of power shuttering of the engine all the bells and whistles on the dash went off in traffic could not accelerate to get off the road had to shut vehicle completely down ,restart -was able to get off the road it did it again and then again. I was able to limp it to the nearest dealer which actually was my dealer and they in turn replaced the throttle body. That helped but did not correct the problem and upon further investigation on their part they replaced the map sensor. That in my opinion did nothing ! It hasn’t happened since but I think when it went it messed up the signal to my transmission! I now drive without using sixth gear and seems to do a lot better in the shattering department. Who knows?

Driving to work stopped at a stop light. When the light turned green I put my foot on the gas and the engine began to shudder and sputter. Wrench symbol came one, hill assist not working warning light, and several others and it would only go 3 miles per hour. Pulled off onto a side road. Shut the vehicle down waited 5 minutes and restarted. Started with a little difficulty, seemed to run normally but the check engine light was on. I attempted to accelerate and it went into spasms again. Waited 10 minutes more after shutting down, got it started and was able to use side streets back to my home at 20 mph. Called Ford and had it towed to the nearest dealership.

F-150 3.5L V6

I bought my F150 just over a month ago, and it ran great until yesterday. It was a cold morning, and I left it running in a parking lot for my wife and baby while I ran into the grocery store. I came out 5 minutes later, and my wife reported that it had suddenly started to shudder.

I pulled onto the road, and the shuddering only got worse as I accelerated. Then, the check engine light came on and started flashing. Not good. I have shut the engine off and turned it back on several times since, and the problem persists. I'm no mechanic, but there is nothing visibly wrong under the hood--fluid/oil levels are fine, etc.

This is the first new vehicle I've ever owned. I've always bought trucks with 100,00+ miles, but got so tired of the nickel and diming that goes with maintenance and problems with an older vehicle that I decided to plunk down the money and get a new truck that wouldn't give me any problems. So you can imagine how pissed off I am that a truck with less than 2,000 miles is pulling this garbage on me. I'm taking it back to the dealership today (which is 40 minutes away, not convenient) and I really hope they have some answers for me. As far as I can tell from my research, Ford has not come up with a viable explanation or solution to this engine shudder issue. Stay tuned.

F-150 XL 2.7L Ecoboost

Ford needs to fix this problem. I have seen many complaints of the same nature online. I paid over 40K for this vehicle and at 1600 miles already a problem? They are aware of it from what I have read, so let's see what they do about it. If the shudder happens when you need acceleration and it causes someone to get hurt, could be a very big problem.

Update from Mar 27, 2017: This problem has occurred 3 times in the last month. I am going to take it to the dealer, but from what I have read this is due to the intercooler (CAC) building up condensation and there is nothing they can do about it. I will say this...if this stall/shudder makes me have an accident, this will be here for my wife and lawyers.

Update from Apr 4, 2017: I have had the shudder 3 more times, normally when I stop while it is idling. I have an appointment with the dealer on Friday.

Update from Aug 7, 2017: This problem has persisted and I finally took the truck to the local dealership. They are squared away and I have no issues with them. They replaced the purge valve, as it was sticking open. I was glad to hear this in a way, because I figured the problem would be finally fixed. Well, it isn't, it is doing the exact same thing. It now has around 6000 miles. TSB 17-0007 states that this is one of the symptoms for engines that may need replacement. My engine was built during the date time frame announced in this TSB as well, and I am hoping this is not the case. I am a bit agitated that I have to be this concerned over a $41000.00 vehicle with 6K miles on it. These engines have too many "issues" for me. I am thinking about trading for a 5.0 engine, as they are time tested and you don't have all of these quirks. I will lose my arse if I do this though.

I purchased my eco-boost new and within a few months, I started noticing that sometimes when I tried to accelerate, it feels like the engine dies....no power and it shudders some. Then if I let off the gas and try to accelerate and it will then pick up speed as normal.

This has been a real issue twice lately, as I was trying to pass someone and suddenly had no acceleration. Very scary, since I had to immediately get back into my lane unable to pass the vehicle.

If Ford doesn't do something to fix this, I will never buy another Ford product and in the last 30 years, I have owned 61 vehicles, many were Ford products.

F-150 XLT Supercrew V6 Ecoboost

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,400 miles

While driving my 2016 f150 3.5L EcoBoost on the highway the engine began to shudder when I tried to increase my speed. When I slowed down it stopped. When I increased my speed it started to shudder again. At one time it shuddered so much I thought the engine might quit. Felt a little like the engine wasn't getting any gas. The engine didn't have any power. Looking at the internet Ford has known about this problem with the V6 3.5L EcoBoost for a long time but hasn't come up with a solution. In the mean time people are buying this Truck with this engine and are having the same problems. The sales person I bought this truck from didn't know about the problem or at least didn't tell me about the problem. Consumer Reports does not say anything about this problem when they highly recommend the 2016 f150 3.5L EcoBoost on their web site. What does the American public have to do so we can trust our car companies and their dealers? The truck has 2400 miles.

Update from Sep 5, 2016: 9/5/2016

Driving the f150 back to the Ford dealer the truck started to shudder going up a hill on the highway. It was so bad I was loosing power and the engine light came on. I stopped along the highway and called the dealer to let them know the problem and that the engine light was on. Didn't want to get blamed for any damage to the engine. Dealer told to me to drive it to them. I limped very slowly to the dealer. I left the truck with the dealer and told them I did not want the truck and to return to me all of my down payment. I do not want to deal with them again.
