Had transmission replaced in 2011, and now it appears to be going out again 5 yrs later and with just 30,000 additional miles. These transmissions seem to only last 5 years.

Freestar SE 3.9L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 150,000 miles

We bought the van in 2012 and that summer, the transmission would slip after we drove for long trips but only when it was hot outside, and only when going from first gear into second. AND, it didn't do it all the time. Go forward five years and now the van acts like it needs more oomph on the pedal to get it moving. Related? Maybe.

Imagine my disappointment when I found out that the vans' transmissions were recalled for 2004 and 2005, but NOT 2006. NOT happy...

Freestar SE 3.9L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 76,682 miles

So my mom owns a 2006 ford freestar and we were driving down the highway when all of a sudden the van just starts reving up and my mom noticed that the van had lost powertrain, (transmission slipped), i tell my mom to try to get to the side as safely and as quickly as she could but no luck van came to a slow stop on the second lane, note traffic was going at a steady 60-65 miles per hour. I get on the phone and call my buddy thats a tow-truck driver and luckily he was like five minutes away , five minutes that seemed like five years having cars swerving and almost hitting the back of our van. My mom was panicking and i tried my best to wave the cars from the window, so i am here because i have read many many similar complaints these vans have had with the transmission and from one post i read that the same van in 2005 and 2004 had a recall with the torque converter , same torque converter that is in the 2006 model yet no recall for the 2006, i suggest people having this same issue to go to the (nhtsa) website and file a complain, remember people the more complains the better chance we have the nhtsa to make ford do a recall on this dangerous problem the ford freestar has. Lets come together people and make a difference.
