CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 Fusion doesn’t have the same track record of power steering failure as the previous 3 model years. Of course, those owners said their steering failed at 60k–100k miles. So this appears to be a classic "wait and see" scenario.
In the meantime, there’s plenty of interior accessory problems to complain about. By themselves, each is a barely a blip on the radar. But combined, they give you that feeling of what the hell have I gotten myself into?

On flat or inclined surface if you are steadily going then give it a good amount of acceleration the car will jolt and shift super hard. Hard enough to nearly jerk the steering wheel off to the right.
My vehicle is having issues with my car not going into park. Last week I got home pulled in my driveway. I tried to put my car in park but the gear shift would not move. It was stuck in the drive mode. The only way I was able to stop my car from rolling into my house was by using the emergency brake. This is the second extremely dangerous recall with this vehicle. Previously I had a recall with the back passenger door latch. Driving with my children one particular day and the door opens. My personal opinion and based on my experience the 2013 Ford Fusion is a safety hazard and has not been manufactured properly.

While operating vehicle, check engine lite(s) 2 come up, code #P0741, torque convertor clutch and P1744, torque convertor cultch solenoid. Gas mileage has critically decreased from average of 34 mpg to 22 mpg. Engine temperature gauge indicates engine is running cool, radiator fan randomly comes on while vehicle is stopped but running. 3 Ford dealers have run computer diagnostics. Transmission periodically downshifts, makes a clunking sound. After operating for a few hours on long drives and upon passing a vehicle, warning message comes up, "vehicle loss of power" due to overheating. Cannot pass! this transmission as shown in data from consumer's report annual frequency of repair, 2013-present, has a high frequency of repair, also consumer complaints. Com. Transmission is mechanically flawed. Please initiate an investigation and generate a recall of this vehicle. Repair is very expensive.
The shifter cable bushing failed, causing inaccurate gear selection, resulting in car rolling down my driveway, crossing the street and crashing into my neighbors tree. Damage included the rear bumper, the tree, no one was hurt but it could have been a lot worse. Ford has a recall for the same year, and model, but insist that my car is not in the list. This incident has cost to date almost a thousand dollars to fix. The loss of confidence regarding the safety of this vehicle cannot be monetized.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. While the vehicle was in drive, the gear would independently shift into reverse. The contact had to apply the emergency brake in order to stop the vehicle from rolling out of the driveway. I crashed my car into a light pole because the transmission cable broke while trying to turn around. I placed the car in reverse to complete a turn on S. boyle avenue in St. Louis but when I pressed the gas to go backward, the car went forward into the pole. The transmission stayed in drive when the cable broke and cause significant damage to my front fascia and grill. I am reporting this because Ford sent a recall notice and would not repair my car due to the damage resulting from a known defect. The recall notice said no accidents occurred from this recall and I had to correct the record. Ford's cable defect did cause my crash and vehicle damage. Ford has completed the cable recall but will not repair the resulting damage to my car.
Extremely abrupt shifting between 1st-2nd and 2nd-3rd. 2013 Ford Fusion titanium AWD. The shift is becoming so hard that I brace myself and place my neck against the headrest during the shift. The transmission shift's so hard it sounds like something is going to break. I've had the adaptive system reprogramed 3 times and the solenoids in 2nd and 3rd replaced already. The shift is abrupt and hard no matter how I try accelerating, also sport mode doesn't make a difference.
Periodically will delay when shifted into reverse, then will engage hard, causing loud sound, slams into gear. Happened several times from the parked position backing out of a parking space, shifting from park to reverse. Also happened several times when stopping forward motion and shifting into reverse, shifting drive to reverse also has condition while driving that transmission would not shift out of low gear automatically or manually, needed to pull over to the side of road, and shut engine off and restart, transmission shifted correctly after restarting engine owned vehicle from new, delay shifting into reverse condition occurred periodically after about two years of service. The no up shift condition has only occurred once to date on 3/1/19
The vehicle has an electrical glitch and when attempting to park the car it will show as park but will actually slip into neutral and roll forward or back if in a slight hill. Also an manufacturing error is causing the car to abruptly stop while on driving. The rpms will increase by itself and then suddenly fall to 0 and the car will not be able to move. All the electrical components will still be on I.e. radio, heat, lights but the car will not move. It's no warning as to when it will just suddenly stop so it's extremely unsafe if driving on a highway.
Complaints involving transmission slipping I brought it back a couple times and I think this problem should be looked into in motion this happens and every time we bring it back they say they can't find anything but when we get it back it works better then it starts doing it again please look into this thanks
