Fusion 1.6L Eco Boost

Coolant level low indicator comes on. Checked level and looked low but I take cap off and level normalized as if there was suction on the reservoir. Replaced the cap. Didn’t work. When I would start the car it would run like it’s misfiring and sometimes stall out completely. Check engine light would come on. Kept checking coolant and it wasn’t low. Sounds like a bad sensor, right? I’ve kept up on my recalls and it had been replaced when that recall came out.

I told my mechanic about the issue when I brought it to the shop for oil change and brakes/tires/rotors. He could not replicate the problem because the car kept clearing the code and it never misfired when he started it. (I should mention that at first this was an intermittent issue when it started in July.) I had no choice but to drive the car when I went to visit my mom 5 hours away in early august. I went to start the car in her driveway one morning and within seconds the temp gage went all the way to hot. Obviously the car can’t actually overheat that fast, but regardless, it went into limp mode. This time the coolant level actually was low, however not so low as to merit what was happening. I topped off the coolant level. Started it again. Same thing happened again. Called tow truck to bring to the shop.

When we loaded it onto the tow truck it started up and didn’t throw any codes. WTF?! So it goes to the shop and again they can’t replicate the problem. Said a mechanic drove it for over an hour and nothing happened. I pick the car up and drive it back home. Coolant low message comes on a half hour from home. I was away for the better part of august so I couldn’t do anything with the car. Dropped it off at Ford last week. They said I have cracks in cylinder walls and there’s significant amount of coolant in the engine. The mechanic said he’s been seeing this happening with a lot of the 1.6 eco boost engines. I’m just past warranty. I just paid this car off last year. I am infuriated. Now that I’ve read that Ford knows about this problem and nothing has been done to fix it, I am on a warpath. I have loyally driven and trusted Ford since my first car. They better make this right.

Fusion 1.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 145,000 miles

I have a 2014 Ford Fusion that I have taken excellent care of since I bought it brand new. I have never been late on an oil change, tune up or any other recommended maintenance. I was driving my car 8 weeks ago when it began idling rough and cutting off while trying to crank it. It has been in and out of the shop the past 8 weeks and the final answer was a new engine is needed. This is due to a faulty engine build by Ford that has recently started showing up.

Fusion 4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 58,200 miles

Bought this car brand new in 2014. Warranty ran out in June 2020. In July 2020 the engine overheated at 58000 miles. Took it to Ford dealership. They advised that antifreeze had leaked into the engine, burning it up. They stated that this is an ongoing issue but we would have to pay to get it fixed. This car is owned and driven by an elderly lady! If Ford knows there is an issue, why do we have to pay for it!!!

Fusion Titanium 2.0L Turbo Ecoboost

  • Automatic transmission
  • 97,600 miles

I purchased this vehicle from Carvana on November 7, 2019 at 76,000 miles. Just needed a used vehicle as a runaround to prevent wear on my CLA250. By November 8, 2020, the engine had failed on a road trip to Jacksonville, FL from Charlotte, NC at 97,000 miles. I had adhered to all scheduled maintenance for the vehicle, with the last oil change occurring one day before I took my road trip to Jacksonville on November 7, 2020. I am so upset with the performance of this vehicle. I had a warning about 2 months prior to the engine failure while driving on a charlotte highway, where there was a noise from the engine compartment on acceleration (passing). It sounded like a clip rattling on a bike spoke or something - clickety clackety and this may have occurred once more but only at high RPM and gear change.

On the road trip to Jacksonville, FL weeks later, the same noise occurred but only lasted at lower RPMs over about 10 minutes. 300 miles into the trip, I stopped at a Ford dealership to take a look but they were closing and directed me to another Ford location that stayed open later...about thirty minutes away. On the way to the 2nd dealership, the vehicle clunked out on the highway. After towing back to Charlotte for my mechanic to look at it, the engine failed and was replaced at a cost of $2,300. Carvana refused to assist as an extended warranty was not purchased.

This vehicle should NOT have ever had an issue happen at such early mileage. When I purchased, it needed a new turbo and transmission within the first 7 days. I considered returning it then, but Carvana paid for all repairs and there was no other Fusion Titanium available especially at $12,900. I wish I would’ve just returned the car and left the whole thing alone.

Fusion SE 2.0L V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 72,000 miles

My Ford Fusion has recently experienced a total engine power loss. The scenario plays out the same in each occurrence. After my lengthy commute, plus/minute 36 miles and 1-hour driving, if I stop at a store to grab food and when I start the car back up to leave the parking lot, it sputters and shuts down. There are NO warning lights on the dash. Power is there as the lights are on and radio on, etc. The engine just dies. I pull over to the side and start it back up no problem, and drive away fine. Any solutions?

Fusion SE 1.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 36,000 miles

Took vehicle into Ford on a Friday evening after finishing my shift at Kaiser. We had taken the vehicle in within the first year for snyc/radio failure and plugs inside the vehicle that were missing or failure to stay in. Luckily I was only blocks from the dealership in Roseville for I bearly made it to work that evening having my spouse on the line should It fail completely. Heard nothing from Ford till we showed up on Tuesday morning and they had not even looked at it.We had to force their hand to obtain transportation after a long back and forth phone calls to Corp etc.. trying to define which of the three warranties we had in place on the vehicle covers a rental car.

They had the vehicle for 5 days before informing us that they will have to drop in a new short block due to over dumpage of fuel into engine and igniting prematurely causing the 1st and 2nd rings to expand and come off of the piston, scoring the inside of the short block and causing complete engine failure. We had not had any kind of engine lite up to the day that it failed.

The rest is months of returning the vehicle (8 times total) for lack of power, stuttering, jerking into its gas saving mode at each light and very poor gas mileage for a vehicle that should be getting 24 miles to the gallon on the low end and 33 on the hwy. The dealership states 27mpg to 30mpg yet when we get into the vehicle upon its repair that the monitor shows 16.6mpg. From the beginning my fill ups were every three days for a vehicle that should be able to go a week on a tank of gas. We still monitor the mileage at each fill up and the best were getting now is 19 to 20mpg. The power seems to be repaired yet the jerking of the saving mode at every light is more than annoying and our gas consumption is just a rip off for a vehicle claiming eccoboost at 24mpg in town and 34mpg hwy. We are presently in litigation with Ford to Lemon Law the vehicle asking for them to absorb the loan and take the vehicle for there is absolutely no trust in the performance and safety of the vehicle yet they have so many loop holes that we are fearful that their pathetic offer of $1750.00 will be all that we receive and still have car payments driving a faulty vehicle.
