The paint on the front corners of the hood has blistered, with apparent corrosion under neath. My dealer says that Ford is aware of the problem and it is due to a problem with the way the aluminum hood are manufactured, yet Ford has done nothing to correct this problem. I have absolutely no other corrosion problems except for this location.

My car has corrosion of the hood which is consistent with the cross contamination of metals complaints being lodged against Ford on a wide basis. I bought the car used with the dealership being aware of this issue but not informing me. They refuse to cover the repair.

I was so excited to finally get my dream car in 2008. In 2010 when I got it out of storage I noticed little blistering on my drivers door when I was hand washing it. I took my car to the dealership because I thought it was still on warranty(3 yrs). The guy told me that since my car was born on April 17th,2007 and it was May that I just missed the 3 yr warranty. I couldn't believe what he said. He told me to get in contact with headquarters and try to get them to pay for it. So I did, and headquarters kept on telling me that they were sorry but for me to pay for it myself and when and if there is a recall they would pay me back.

I have been writing to them for the past 5 yrs and trying to get other people who have the same problem to complain. I have a neighbor who has a 2007 Edge on the hatchback part of his vehicle paint chipping and peeling also. Its not just the 2007 Mustangs that this problem is with. It seems if its all black vehicles...I am so embarrass to even drive my car anymore. but when I do I get these stares and people ask me what happen to my car.......I just cant believe that Ford won't fix this problem. People just don't have money to throw away like that. People work hard for there money........FORD NEEDS TO MAKE THIS RIGHT!!!!!!

The engineers at Ford really stepped on their junk. Very basic, engineering 101. You can't marry steel with aluminum. The aluminum will oxidize. Now you put paint over it and you get blistering paint. I talked to the service manager at the dealership I bought the car and he said he has seen this before. He gave me a number at Ford corporate. They tip toed around, but in the end offered no help in any way. At least he told me about a potentially lethal problem under recall. The recall went out just after the first of the year. Turns our the driver's side airbag explodes with shrapnel on deployment. So it's off to Ford and I am planning on getting ugly.

I have a 2007 Ford Mustang GT that has been garaged most of the time and it only has 40,000 miles. The front edge of the hood is bubbling from corrosion under the paint. Took it to the Ford dealer that sold the car. They simply said the car was out of warranty and would do nothing to fix it. Since then I have seen how many complaints there are about exactly this problem! But even worse...there are reports that the corrosion comes back even after repainting. This is a manufacturing defect that should be corrected by Ford....no matter how old the car is! Other manufacturers stand behind their products...Ford should too!! The class action suit is the best course of action!!!

The issue is bubbling paint on the leading edge of the hood. The cause is due to the aluminum hood being contaminated prior to painting in Fords assembly plant. This is admitted by Ford - but they won't resolve this defect in workmanship.

yes i first noticed this problem opening the hood where u grip it. now it is going up the side and the back of the hood and just getting worse. i have been around a lot of cars from up north ohio and really have not seen a hood rust like this.. yes the lower body of the car where the salt hits in the winter etc.

I am an owner of a 2007 ford mustang. I stared noticing paint blistering along the front edge and underside of the hood. This is a common problem as I have seen numerous mustangs of the same body style with such rust spots. The only solution given to me by ford was to buy a new hood, which they would not cover or put any money/credit towards. Very frustrating.

My daughter's beautiful pristine 2007 Mustang convertible, premium trim has blistering on/under the hood where the metal is bent and welded. I noticed it while washing and waxing it for her. Then in April she comes home from college upset that the blistering has now popped off leaving a large, ugly bare metal area on the right front side of the hood. I took the car to a very well known paint and body shop that Geico, Progressive and others send a ton of work to. The estimator opened the hood and showed me where the entire area has rust under it. He said Ford knew/knows of the problem, where iron particles are embedded in the aluminum causing it to rust. The estimate to repaint the entire hood is $825.00, but he explained there is nothing they can do about the underlying problem with the aluminum hood without replacing the entire hood. He recommended that I contact Ford prior to doing anything to see if they would cover it. I have not done that yet, but can imagine the "canned" answer I'd get. Wanted to do some research prior to contacting them so I would know what to expect. Googling the rust problem with Ford's other models brought up pages of complaints. Ford's Expedition has the same exact problem. Many said after contacting the BBB and filing a claim in small claims court, that Ford got in touch with them and agreed to replace the hood. The owner had to sign a waiver or something like one, agreeing this would end his claims and he could not sue them for more damages. Suing Ford sounds like an impossible undertaking considering a huge company like that would have large legal staff to fight you every step of the way until you give up. However, Small claims court is very cheap to file a lawsuit, with no need for a lawyer. You may still win if that doesn't work. A good friend of mine sued Ford over problems with his 2 year old Ford F-250. He had that truck in and out of the dealer for everything from the transmission, engine and suspension. He called Ford and spoke with them. Got nowhere. Then he hired a lawyer and they filed a formal lawsuit against Ford Motor Company. 6 months later they gave him a brand new 2013 F-250. He had to sign an agreement also relieving Ford from further lawsuits regarding the truck. Seems Ford doesn't want too much negative publicity about these problems. No wonder. Can you imagine how much it would cost to repair or replace all the vehicles that they know has problems? I will be getting in touch with the small claims court in my county (Gwinnett County, Georgia) and contacting the BBB. Crappy products almost put the automakers out of business years before the recession, when American's ditched domestic vehicles in favor of imports. Then after barely surviving the great recession, here they are found hiding known defects. I've owned Ford cars and trucks and haven't had any problems. But after researching and talking with people like the expert at the bodyshop, I doubt I would buy another. Really sad. They've got some nice looking cars and trucks, but if you can't depend on the manufacturer to turn out good products or recall them when they become aware, I don't care how nice they look. I will most likely buy Nissan, Mazda or Honda going forward. GM isn't any better with the ignition problems. And unbelievably, Toyota got into trouble a couple of years ago regarding their hiding problems with their vehicles. That was so not like Toyota. My wife owned a Camry and kept it for 8 years. Never more than oil changes and routine maintenance. Guess that's out the door. So Ford, I am calling you out. You have a chance to quietly make this problem go away for my 24 year old daughter (and me) or you can wait to get the lawsuit and the additional bad publicity of my complaint with the BBB, plus the word of mouth complaints. As a sales representative, I interact with large mechanical contractors who buy fleet trucks from Ford. You can bet I will give them a "heads up" about the rust problem.

I want Ford to FIX my hood for FREE. This corrosion problem is really terrible and takes away from the look of the car as well as the resale value. I have a little spot by the hood scoop but the front of the hood has many large spots from corrosion. My Mustang was a small mortgage payment which took 6 years to pay off and now I'm stuck with a crappy, corroding, blistering and bubbly hood where the paint is complete gone.

I really don't have the money to get it fixed and who is to say that if won't happen again. I've thought about a carbon fiber hood but costs too many $$$$.

The paint on my New 2007 Mustangs' hood blistered up in the first year of ownership. The dealer(s) said, "Nothing could be done to actually fix the already rotted aluminum". It's along the hood aft-edge. They were right. A year later I noticed similar corrosion bubbling slowly up along the front leading edge paint of my, now, totally rotting hood. I figured it was my own damn fault, for neglecting to wax it, every "edge" of my new car, more than a couple times a month. But thanks to this informative website, I now realize that this uncommon disaster is a very common carcomplaint (s.com) among owners of "Aluminum Hooded Mustangs". Maybe, after we're all done trying to save these (already rotted) Mustang hoods, an engineer in some foreign land will come up with a fix. That's the way it goes when we, our superiors, let it go.

This is the exact same problem as I have found through the Internet that has been repeatedly reported for years. I noticed this problem on the day noted and immediately took to my regular Ford dealership. I was quoted a price of $747.83 for a sand , bead blast and repaint fix and no guarantee would be offered. A new hood was priced at $2615.87 and there was no guarantee that a replacement hood would not develop the same problem in the future.

This is a clear no win situation. It looks like the best answer might be a fiberglass after market hood replacement which is something I'm not in favor of as I would like to keep the vehicle Ford stock.

I took the car into a local dealership with a TSB in hand and they contacted FORD and got authorization to get the hood repainted. The work held up until recently and now the oxidation is spreading like wildfire over the lip onto the top of the hood and back under the fire blanket under the hood blistering and peeling.

FORD has known about this issue for a very long time as it has occurred to not only Mustangs but several other vehicles in their line-up of cars and trucks. Since my car is now 6 years old they will not fix the problem. The hood should have been replaced with a properly manufacture part instead of a half-assed attempt to put a temporary band aide on an issue that devalues the vehicle and will cost me $1300.00 out of my pocket to cover up as a second repaint will only mask the problem until I can sell it. This is not the only issue the car has had, there have been far too many in the drivetrain and suspension. Last FORD I will own!!!!!

I bought the car in July '11 and it took me a year to realize that the hood's paint had issues. The paint is bubbling (corroding) near the hood scoop and left front side of the hood and well as under the hood. It makes no sense to repaint it because the problem will occur again. Based on what I've read in the forums, the corrosion is an occurring issue that will not go away even after a sand and repaint job. Some guys shared that they had their hoods were repainted up to 4 times and the problem was not permanently resolved!

According to an article in the New York Times, there is a pending class action lawsuit that was filed last year in the United States District Court in New Jersey for all Ford, Mercury and Lincoln owners with cars from 2000-2007 with aluminum hoods. According to the article, "Ford used aluminum hoods but failed to properly insulate them from 'old iron-based connecting and supporting parts,' despite knowing that 'would give rise to galvanic coupling' and corrosion." Hopefully the judge rules in favor of the car owners so we can have this issue resolved permanently!

I went to Ford specifically to tell them the issue with my paint. The guy looked at me, said he has seen hundreds of Mustangs with this issue, but he couldn't do anything about it. He said he was aware that Ford had an issue with the aluminum hood, and pretty much "Sorry about my luck" but they would not pay to fix it.

I went back and forth with Beach Ford for over a year, spoke to two different managers. At the year mark my car had surpassed 90k miles and he then stated "Well they won't fix anything past 90,000 miles. You should have fixed it a year ago." Yet the year before I was told they wouldn't do anything. This is so frustrating!!!!! My car has since been repainted, but Ford has not done a damn thing! And has not been held accountable for their shotty workmanship!

On August 20th 2012 prior to my extended warranty expiring I pointed out to the Service Manager Rick Wilson at The Astorg Ford Dealership Parkersburg, WV 304-865-3120 that the paint on the hood of my 2007 Shelby GT500 was bubbling up. He looked at the hood and said it wasn't covered by warranty. But asked me to go see their paint shop manager to make sure. So drove the car over to Astorg's paint shop and went in and talked to the paint shop manager and he came outside and looked at the hood and said warranty would cover the paint bubbling and corrosion on the hood. He said his best advise to me was for me to go buy a new hood and that it would be cheaper on me that paying to have the hood repainted. I was very angry at this and this all seemed wrong to me. I felt Ford should paint or replace the hood if the paint or hood was defective. It's a year later and now it's even worse, the hood is starting to chip away, white chunks are coming off from underneath the paint bubbles. All around the inside lip of the hood and now the outside lip of the hood as well. It both angers me and depresses me because this is the 7th mustang I have owned and I take pride in that ownership. Ford makes it hard to take pride when they don't stand behind their top of the line car. I am trying to stay calm and not curse in this complaint...even though believe you me I want too.
